World Wrestling Entertainment released former ECW World champion The Sandman today. Internally within the company, the release had been expected over the last 24 hours.
Sandman was hired by the company in June 2006 when they re-launched the ECW letters as a third WWE brand. After floating around the top of the ECW brand as a popular babyface, complete with a toned down version of his famous entrance, he was drafted to Raw several months back. He had most recently been seen last night against Santino Marella.
You saw him hurt his leg during the match with Santino. That was the last straw I guess. Its just a shame he had to leave WWE after learning he wasn't McMahon's "son"
Why do they release him after hes involved in a feud? Couldnt they had just done this a while ago? I read Vince was going to give him an undercard push but it looks like that was scrapped.
I'm really surprised that it took this long. Of all the ECW Originals brought back, I thought Sandman would be one of the first gone. I never imagined that Sandman would last as long as he did in WWE, nor even get any kind of reaction out of WWE crowds, especially once Heyman was gone. He was the epitome of an "Only in ECW" type of guy.
To be honest, its for the best, I never got to see him in his earlier real ECW days, but he was wasted and didnt seem like he had a good future in the WWE. Just seemed like he was used to be the Hardcore Holly teaching new guys lessons(tried to) added with the Austin redneck a bit drinking beer... jobber.
I don't want to believe that WWE would release someone while their injured and if thats the case due to what may have been a bad leg injury last night,I don't see why they didn't just let him stay where he belonged in ECW,thats where he is in a better environment and where he never should have been removed from.
There are now fewer ECW originals left and another wrestler that will be in the new video game,but not with the company at the time of it's release.

Whats the point of WWE bringing back ECW and release all of the originals? WWE mess up the ECW name!!mivery
even if they didnt release most of the originals ECW would still be messed up. imo ECW was good for the firt few weeks but that was because it was novel and fresh, after the novelty wore off i never had time for ECW. Even if sandman and sabu were in WWECW still chances are they would be just used to further the careers of younger stars of ECW like Elijah Burke and Kevin Thorn.
