Before the first match took place at the SmackDown! Tapings, a Video package of WrestleMania 23 was shown. The bottom section and upper deck is pretty much sold out. There is probably around 9000 people in attendance to tonight's tapings.

SMACKDOWN START

Show starts off with Teddy Long and the Great Khali in the ring. Teddy Long says that tonight they are going to determine a new number one contender for the World Championship title. Their will be a tournament to decide. Kane will face Finlay and Batista will face Mysterio. The winners of those two matches will face each other. Teddy then says, lets not wait until next week, lets get it started now!

Kane vs. Finlay
Kane dominates first half of match. Match ends when Kane hits Finlay with a clothes-line off the top rope. Kane then hit's the choke slam on Finlay but the little bastard runs in and distracts Kane. Finlay rolls him up for the win.

Matt Hardy & MVP vs. Deuce and Domino

Matt Hardy was in the match the whole time and got dominated. MVP got the tag and through Hardy out of the ring and MVP got the win. So we have new tag-team champions. After the match MVP was in the ring celebrating with both titles while Matt looks on from the outside.

Backstage Vince tells Batista that he could very well be his son. He's got the looks, and everything. Batista says, If I was your dad, id kill you.

On the screen the video that they played ask week shows. The Undertaker didn't come out but states that he will make his return at Unforgiven. Mark Henry stands in the ring while this is happening.

Video package shows of Mysterio's return.

Batista vs. Rey Mysterio
Back and forth match. Rey Mysterio goes for the 619 but misses. At the end, Finlay runs down, hits Rey Mysterio. Mysterio wins by DQ and Rey advances to the finals.

Vince McMahon Segment

Vince comes to the ring with coach. Just like on Monday, Coach says he has a list of people Vince has slept with and he would like to bring them out. The first girl that comes out is from New York. Her name is Sheryl. Vince says he remembers that night because she is hot.

Next Coach brings out a 3-girls from Connecticut. He said he had a 3-some with them and he remembers them because it was New Years of 1997. Vince says he remembers that night because they are hot. He said he brought in the new years with a big bang.

Another female comes out by the name of Sister Merry. She is dressed like a nun. Sister Merry gets on the mic and says "Our one night together, who could ever satisfy me in the way you did in 1991 in the parking lot." Vince says Merry gave her a new direction for church. He then comments that she is second to nun.

After that, Vince says next Monday on RAW, he has to confront the other members of the McMahon Family and he is not worried.

Chris Masters vs. Chuck Palumbo
Masterlock challenge

They set the chair up, as Palumbo was about to escape, Chris Masters let off the hold and ran out of the ring. On Palumbo's way back to the back he has problems starting his bike.

-- Krystal Marshall and Teddy Long - Invitation to their marriage shows up on the screen.

-- The Dalton aired a promo that they are coming to SmackDown.

Rey Mysterio vs. Fit Finlay
Winner gets match at Unforgiven.

During the match, Khali comes down and gets in the ring and takes Mysterio and throws him. Rey Mysterio advances by DQ. After the match, they beat on Mysterio and Batista comes down to make the save on Mysterio.

-- Rey Mysterio vs. Khali for the title at Unforgiven.

-- After the match is over, they disassemble the ring and the announcers leave as they now set up for ECW.

Is it just me, or is the rival-Tag Team Partner literally the most over-used story of the year? This feels like the 8th time they've done this story this year.

OH YES!!! This is sweet. I love Rey and hope he wins the title with a 'Super 200000000x underdog story"

I kinds wish I didnt read the spoilers though, that would be anunpredicable show.

My lil bro is going to flip, Rey is his favorite.

Hey, its better than Batista/Kalhi.

Don't be so sure. In a Batista/ Khali match, both guys at least move. This wil be Rey jumping into a wall for 10-15 minutes before a vice or a chokeslam. If you guys remember about a year ago when they had a SD match, which I was unfortunate to see live, it was predictably possibly the worst match I've ever seen.

What if Rey wins? His gimmick is the ultimate underdog. What better way then to win the title form Kalhi, then he will probably get screwed by Edge, like he did with Booker. That how I see WWE doing Rey form now on, win a super underdog match then get screwed.

I would agree with that, but I seriously cannot imagine any plausible finish short of an Taker or Batista interference, and even then it's very hard to make any sense to me short of just plain killing the character.

Seeing as its Superman... Rey Mysterio, he will pull a hogan/andre the giant, and lift Khali in the air and win the match with ease.

Rey Mysterio's gimmick is not that of under-dog because if that were the case, he would earn his victories. Last time he earned major victory was at the Royal Rumble, since than, his real gimmick as been that of sympathy and luck. Think about it --- when he lost his spot in the world title match at WrestleMania, how did he get back? By winning match? Nope, instead of that, Teddy Long simply felt "sorry" for him and gave him his spot back. When he won the title at WrestleMania, he should have lost --- Kurt Angle made both him and Randy Orton tap. Instead, Rey was able to get lucky because the referee did not see it. During his run as champion, more often than not, the guy did not win his matches and yet, despite that, he was able to keep the title for 3 months because - what do you know - in all of those matches, either the title was not on-the-line or he would loose by count-out or DQ (and as we all know, normally, there cannot be title change under either of those circumstances).

Also, look at the guy's promo from the time, as prime example of what I am talking about. Instead of talking about he great he was, how much ass he was going to kick... he would talk about how grateful he was (I believe he said something to the effect of "every day was a gift") and he was not sure whether or not he would remain champion.

That, and in general, I think his push towards the top was probably doomed to begin with. While I still say he should have been pushed, he was pushed for the wrong reasons. He should have been pushed because of his hard work, his popularity with the fans and his broad appeal --- not because his "best-friend" Eddie had died and people felt "sorry" for him.

...and if these spoilers are any indication, looks as if WWE still has not learned the lesson with Rey --- what a shame.

Dude_14 I have to disagree, Though Cena/HBK was a rival tag team it wasn't on the same like this. I like rival tag teams as it makes the matches more competitive almost eliminates the hot tag in matches.

Well, I'll take Rey any day over Batista or Khali. Maybe Batista helps Rey win the title from Khali, then the two have theirfeud until Edge returns and hopefully recieves an injury free long long title reign.

That's what I think will happen too.

he is a better wrestler, more popular, better at speaking (well... that's not saying much) and more experienced than the khali but khali is a "real" champion. rey's title run (as link256) pointed out wasn't because he was the best, it's because he was sympathised by people and didn't really "win" any matches.

I'm assuming by e marks you mean "smarks" or smart marks, or maybe the e was a typo, but in wrestling fans eyes (assuming you mean marks) Batista is the ultimate champion.

They're just called marks, that way it covers TNA as well. And Cena does not blatantly suck.

"Real wrestling fans"? FU. Just because someone doesn't share the same opinion as you doesn't mean they aren't real wrestling fans. If there is someone who likes Cena a little more than Benoit or Mysterio that's just there opinion. It doesn't make them any less of a fan than you.

And I agree with the person above me. Cena does not blatantly suck. You're just a blind Cena hater.

he's adding more excitement to the wwe title than i can remember, it's far more entertaining and unpredictable then the world title. the summerslam poll is proof.

At this point I've come to accept the fact that John Cena will never lose the title, so all I ask is for him to at least go heel. It would add a lot more excitment to the title instead of just the same ol thing every week. THE CHAMP IS HERE!!! It gets unbearable after a year of the same thing. I remember when John Cena had that fued with RVD when ECW was making it's return I got really interested in the world title picture because I actually thought Cena was going to turn heel. And that made me want to watch. I know it's not smart in terms of business and making sales for merch, but it's gotten to the point where WWE fans, even John Cena's own fans are getting fed up.
