Alright based on what I saw with Cena on that table and Rey standing on... whatever the hell that is, I think that this game's fighting area will be very broad.  It looks like setting matches for an ECW:ONS type show would be more interesting with the ability to roam in and around the crowd.

Look at the pic where Rey is doing a moonsault onto Cena, look at where the table is. That's what he's jumping off, it's like scaffolding.

I don't know...THQ promised a lot for 2K6, and they only delivered a little bit on it. Sounds like they're not going to add proper tag team finishers this time...

Then again, the ability to play as MNM, Mickie James, Mr Kennedy (dear god I hope he's in- with an entrance where he introduces himself!), plus a supposedly 'great' season mode, and the ability to go into the crowd...Holy moly. Y'all seen that screenshot where Mysterio is about to jump off one of the crowd areas onto Cena, who's on a table? Replace Mysterio with Shane McMahon, and the crowd area with Titantron, and then it'll be the perfect WWE game...

That is...if they put all these great features in all the versions of the game...I don't wanna have to fork out more money then I need to in order to get the better version of the game...

Well, I'm glad to see they haven't completely abandoned the PS2, so I'm not going to be completely shafted.

However, with the development likely focused around the big money consoles, I get the feeling that my copy of SVR 07 is going to be little more than an updated roster.

Man, I have mixed feelings after watching GS's video...

Happy:
- Both Cena and Angle's entrances were spot on.
- Lilian's announcing was incredibly realistic.
- The RAW set looks fabulous.
- Crowd look spectacular.
- Great lighting and sound.
- Interacting with the audience looks like a lot of fun, some neat animations too.
- Climbing is realistic too; not fast at all.

Sad:
- The gameplay hasn't changed much at all; reversals are pretty much the same, opponents get up way too quickly.
- Totally unrealistic sounds when your wrestling your opponent.
- Weapons disappear by the looks of things. When Angle performed the moonsault onto Cena from the top of the arena floor through the table, it vanished into thin air.
- If Cena was the A.I, man what a disappointment. He literally had no offence throughout the match up.

Impressions so far:

- Considering it's an early build, a promising start but I definitely feel it needs more development. Things needed done as far as the video is concerned; trons, ring announcers, refs, and possibly commentators.

I really feel the same way.  I enjoyed the moonsault off of the top of the stuff onto Cena through the table.  Fortunetly I think that the game is far enough away that the bad things should be fixed by the release, well hopefully they are.

For anyone that does not have the video on the homepage of GS, here is the link: http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/smackdownvsraw2007/index.html

I have to agree with HBK91 about having mixed reactions after seeing the footage on Gamespot.  The graphics were incredible, and some of the animations were really well done (thinking of the climbing animation)... however, we know Yukes can make pretty games, what we want are good games.   SvR05 was pretty, but fairly lousy to play.  SvR06 has extremely nice graphics, but the glitchiness of the gameplay really hinders it.  I wanna see more out of Yukes then pretty pictures.

Some musings:

It's nice to see we can go into the audience.  I'm not really going to fawn that much over this, though.  We already had the ability to go into the audience, and Yukes took it away.  You don't get browny points from me for adding stuff in that was already being done years ago and then got dropped.  Sure they've improved upon the old way of getting into the crowd, but years later, I'd expect nothing less.  Also, while the area is clearly larger than in the old games, it's not the mammoth free roaming grapple-fest I was hoping for, just going off that early clip.  It certainly doesn't seem to match the days of Know Your Role, where we could wander from the ring to the locker room, boiler room or even the street.

Crowd interaction looks very nice.  I see Yukes have played Def Jam: Fight for New York, because the interaction looked very reminiscent of that... maybe even not quite as good (taking weapons off the fans, but no fan interaction beyond that).  I hope in the final build that weapons will be a bit more spectacular - one hit and then they vanished... that's a little weak.

Gameplay looks almost completely unaltered in most ways, sadly.  The same utlra recycled sell, block, reverse animations from Cena were on display... let's hope the final build has a bit more variety.  I swear, if I have to sit through more matches where 90% of the action is turning someone around and hitting them on the back, I will scream XD.

All in all, for an early build it's looking fairly decent.  The graphics are a wow factor, but like I said, we expect that from Yukes.  I really think I'll want to see a lot more from the gameplay though before I decide this is the game to make me want to buy a 360 of PS3.  Graphics aside, the gameplay looked a little underwhelming... I'm still kinda more tempted for DoR2, as I was saying in that thread earlier. Yukes has a few months to stun me, though, so here's hoping.

Just updated WWEv's associations on the mainpage and linked all four versions of the games as relations to our union.

Be sure to track some of them and add them to your wish lists.

I guess so, since Studio Gigante single-handedly killed the series.

WrestleMania games were always great on Nintendo consoles.  Givin' the series to a company who didn't know squat about wrestling in the first place was a very bad idea.

THQ wrestles with next-gen consoles
http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/smackdownvsraw2007/news.html?sid=6146945
Publisher pins down WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 for Xbox 360, PS3; PS2, PSP version also stepping in ring.
By Tim Surette

Wrestlemania 22 takes place this Sunday in Chicago, but one hard hit has already been delivered. THQ announced today that the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw wrestling series is returning to the ring, and will take on new competition in the form of next-generation consoles. Scheduled for release this fall, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 will appear on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PSP.

The latest grappler from developer Yuke's takes the fight into new territory by allowing wrestlers to suplex to their heart's content among the fans in designated areas. Gamers will be able to use objects in the crowd and around the ring to beat on foes. Players can also look forward to an enhanced season mode and new high impact combos.

Check back later today for GameSpot's preview of the game direct from THQ's press event in Chicago.

It's looking very tempting...I like the idea how the right analogue stick is controlling all the grappling now, so I take it that the Circle button will be for taunting? Or maybe for something else?

I hope THQ can promise a proper season mode, I wonder what their idea of branching paths are? Hopefully more than fighting a different opponent or becoming a face/heel. My idea for how a story mode should be done is that you play as one character and experience events from their perspective (based on what happened to them on Raw and Smackdown). For example, if I were to play as Mickie James, it'd start off when she debuted on Raw, and the story for her would change if she had won the womens title at either Taboo Tuesday or NYR.

In conclusion, I hope that it has a complete Boogeyman entrance...that would rule...

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007: Eyes On
First look at the game that puts the mania in wrestling.
by Jon Robinson

March 31, 2006 - Kurt Angle clotheslines John Cena over the guard railing and both wrestlers flip into the crowd. The Olympic champ is drenched in sweat, and when he stands up, someone from the crowd hands him a bottle. With the crack of glass, Cena is left sprawled on the concrete. That's when it happens. Kurt Angle rolls the WWE champ on a table and begins to climb the scaffolding near by. The camera pans back with a cinematic flair usually reserved for Monday nights on USA, then Angles takes the death defying leap, attempting a moonsault through the table.

If this was real life, you know Angle misses the moonsault (doesn't he almost always?). But this isn't real life. This is the first footage of WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 for the Xbox 360, and at first glance, it's the closest you can get to the men in tights without buying a front row ticket.

From the ab definition to the buildup of sweat throughout the match, the 20,000 polygon wrestlers show amazing details. Tattoos, shoes, even facial expressions from fear and shock to the look of pain after getting beat over the head with fluorescent lightbulbs…it's all in the game, presented, at least in the demonstration, sans HUD (think Fight Night 360).

But the improvements to the series aren't merely cosmetic. Using a new analog grappling system (featuring both quick and strong grapples), users will be able to control when and where to pickup opponents, then what to do with them once they're hoisted into the air. For example: If Cena decides to pick Angle up in a vertical suplex, simply flick up on the right analog stick. From here, Angle is in a bad way, completely upside down and completely at Cena's mercy. Hold up on the right analog stick and you can keep Angle in the air. While he's vertical, Cena can choose to taunt the crowd or his opponent, even walk to the ropes in order to setup a more vicious superplex. In fact, there are over 40 interactive moves like this where gamers will be in full control of when and how to slam their opponent. Think about rotating the stick for an airplane spin, and you get the idea of the fun that could be had.

Gamers will also be able to put in work outside the ring as there will be 20 hot spots of interactivity including everything from the ring post to the steel cage to the guard rails. This enables you to decide how many times you want to consecutively pound your opponent's head into the post, or what direction you wish to rake his face along the cage in order to bust them open.

When you throw opponents into the crowd, you'll see popcorn flying as fans try to pat their favorite superstars on the back or hand them a weapon like an umbrella, fire extinguisher, or crutches. There also backstage environments you'll be able to interact with, including speaker systems you can whip opponent's into as you watch the sparks fly from an electrifying electrocution.

All of this action is running at a smooth 60 frames per second, and we were able to see everything from the intros (the crowd here cheers Cena) to the crowd interaction. There are over 1,000 fully 3D people in the audience, and they pretty much act like a hot crowd from Raw, jumping up and down, holding up signs, and trying to get as close as possible to these superheroes of the mat.

During the presentation, representatives from THQ also promised things like updated rosters, legends, online play with voice chat, a Create Superstar mode with over 250 customizable parts, along with enhanced versions of season and GM modes. None of this, however, was actually shown on screen.

What we did see was some extremely impressive visuals and the kind of action wrestling fans have grown to love from the Smackdown series.

Forget Edge/Foley, if you're looking for someone who stole the show Wrestlemania weekend, look no further than THQ.

By the way the video is pretty much the same as the one first shown on GameSpot orginally yesterday. Nevertheless, click here for demonstration footage of the game.

It's the same basically. That's what the down-fall is. None-the-less, I can't wait for this game.

I think i will be satisfied with this game... for what i saw, the gameplay is a little bit more realistic than the previous one, cause they look like freaking robots in the past games... the walking has changed, allowing the wrestlers to have a more "human" touch to themselves... I cant wait to see the created wrestlers, the weapons, the roster... and the moves, i hope they FINALLY add the Batista spinebuster, Kennedy's Finisher (im almost drooling over that one), about 6 or 8 moves for Finlay (who rocks our worlds) :D and new good moves overall...

Just watched the new video and there's nothing new in terms of footage apart from the Cena/Angle match already shown before on GS and also on IGN. It's worth checking out to hear what Corey and Taku have to say though. Some promising insights for the game by the looks of things. I can only hope it delivers by the end of the final product.

Here's the written account of GS's latest update...

WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2007 First Look
http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/smackdownvsraw2007/news.html?sid=6146959&mode=recent
A whole new season of squared-circle mayhem approaches with the announcement of SmackDown! vs. Raw 2007. We're on hand in Chicago for a first look.

Last year's SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006 was one of the better received wrestling games of this console generation. It's blend of high intensity with surprising depth delighted critics and wrestling fans alike. The Yuke's development team is aiming to make this next game in the series, SmackDown! vs. Raw 2007, even better. Today, THQ unveiled the game at a press conference in Chicago, just ahead of WrestleMania 22, which is being held in the Windy City.

The biggest news for SmackDown! vs. Raw 2007, even if it isn't that much of a surprise, is that it will be the series' debut on next-generation consoles. In addition to making expected appearances on the PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation Portable, the game will be available on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 when it's released close to the holiday season. Of course, THQ folks were most interested in talking about the next-gen versions of the game which, as you might expect, boast some truly amazing-looking graphics.

Considering the quality of player models found in the previous game--which seemed to push the PS2 to its upper graphical limits--SmackDown! vs. Raw 2007 ups the ante even more, with player models that seem to be virtually indistinguishable from their real-life counterparts. Several in-game screenshots were shown during the THQ-guided demo (unfortunately, the game won't be playable until E3), which showcased big-name WWE stars such as Rey Mysterio Jr. and John Cena. The amount of detail visible in these screens was amazing--from the fine lines that comprise Mysterio's intricate back tattoo, to the veins and muscles that bulge from Cena's biceps it's clear to see that the Yuke's folks have invested major effort into making the game take full advantage of next-gen platform power.

If you're looking for numbers, consider this: The wrestler models here will be made up of more than 20,000 polygons apiece--several times more than those found in SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006. Other details, such as more-detailed facial animations and even a realistic sweat system--something no next-gen sports game can do without, it seems--make for a great-looking package all the way around even if, as one Yuke's developer told us, it's been no easy task to get the wrestlers looking as good as they do. Shortcuts that the graphics team could take in the previous generation simply won't do on the Xbox 360 or the PS3. Consider a simple T-shirt, for example. In the previous game, placing a T-shirt on a wrestler was a much simpler task than it is now. The increased graphical power means the art team has to be much more mindful of how the shirt interacts with the player's body, because otherwise it just won't look right.

It's not just the wrestlers that are getting the royal graphical treatment. The crowd also looks markedly improved, with full 3D models that showcase a good deal of variety in animations when they are cheering the action in the ring. One THQ producer told us that a typical crowd will consist of around 1,000 3D models, and that sense of excitement and movement makes the action on the screen that much more palpable.

While the graphics are getting an upgrade, it certainly isn't the only aspect of the game that's going to change this time around. While the game will still differentiate between strong and weak grapples, these moves have been mapped to the right analog stick. Now, when you want to grab ahold of your opponent and execute a move such as a suplex or a slam, you'll do so by pressing the analog stick in any direction. Presumably, your position relative to the position of your opponent will determine which moves are available to you at any given moment. What's even better is that when using the right analog, you'll have greater control over the execution of that move than ever before.

For example, by pushing up on the right analog, you can pick up your opponent and set him up for a suplex. By holding the stick forward, you can keep your opponent up in the air and even walk with him around the ring for a little showboating. Only when you let go of the stick will you drop your opponent back down on the mat. Similarly, you can use the right analog stick to perform airplane spins on opponents you've picked up, or even interact with various interactive hot spots found in the wrestling environment, such as pushing back and forth on the stick to ram your opponent's head into the ring post. Good, painful stuff.

Another new twist on the gameplay formula is more interaction than ever with the crowd. We've all seen WWE matches where the wrestlers leave the squared circle and take the action into the crowd. And this time you'll be able to do that very thing. Once the fight is outside of the ring, you can toss your opponent over the wall or into the front row of the crowd. The crowd is more interactive as well--they'll pat you on the back or loudly cheer for you as you duke it out. One of the more boisterous fans might even hand you a weapon that you can swat your opponent with. In all, the team wants to add more interactivity to any environment in which you're fighting--be it in the ring, amid the crowd, or backstage.

It wouldn't be a SmackDown! vs. Raw game without plenty of different game modes, and the 2007 version certainly won't disappoint there. Popular features, such as the season mode, create a wrestler, and general manager mode will return, though details are still sketchy. We do know the season mode will have more branching paths than the previous game, making it a slightly less linear experience. And we can expect to see plenty of WWE superstars make appearances (and lend their voice talent as well). Speaking of the superstars, no official roster has been announced yet other than mainstays like Kurt Angle, John Cena, and Rey Mysterio Jr., but you can expect to see a full slate of members from both the Raw and SmackDown! television brands. If you like, you can even create your own character using the game's improved create-a-wrestler feature, which will include more than 250 customizable items to choose from when designing your virtual grappler.

Last year's general manager mode was a new addition, and it let you take control of either Raw or SmackDown!, draft a roster of WWE stars, and book your own shows in an effort to create the best promotion possible. We know that GM mode is making a return in SmackDown! vs. Raw 2007, and THQ reps told us you will have more control over your respective brand, but that was the only information available. Since it was one of our favorite modes in the previous game, we'll be curious to see how it's changing in this game.

Online play has been around for two SmackDown! vs. Raw entries, so of course it will be returning for this game as well. Of special note will be the ability to use voice chat during online sessions (a requirement, since the game will be online for the Xbox 360, of course), and more than 50 available match types will all be playable online. Other details--such as the number and type of Xbox Live achievements--were not released.

In all, SmackDown! vs. Raw 2007 looks like it will make an auspicious next-gen debut, with impressive graphics, a richer and more varied sound palette, and control tweaks that look to put more control than ever before into the players' hands. The game is currently scheduled for release during the holiday season of 2006, but we'll be bringing you much more in the coming months.

I don't know how much of this is new information and how much of it is old, but it was a good read so I thought I would share it with everyone. I used Microsoft Word to type it up and it is just over 2 pages long.

Just bumping this thread up to resume some discussion.

I'd just like to point out that I find it rather ironic how our banner fits the current title holders of the World Title and the WWE Title. I think somebody mentioned that it would be like it before.

Anyways, so it's a new game...there'll most probably be Legends in this sequel once again. If you could throw in 10 "Legends" into the game, who would you pick?
