Source: Wrestling-Observer Newsletter

Prior to his drug-related arrest, Rob Van Dam was in line for a major run as ECW Champion. Although he was going to lose the WWE Championship at SNME, WWE was not going to remove the ECW belt from Van Dam until next year.

Rob Van Dam will be pushed upon returning to ECW television, although he will likely need to regain the company’s trust before being granted another title run. Vince McMahon was finally coming around regarding the wrestler, but the incident (and rumored RVD’s nonchalant attitude regarding the fallout) likely destroyed some of that newfound confidence.

Sabu was also in-line to receive a huge push, although his present status is not yet known. The promo video on last week’s show, however, implies that Sabu, who was very apologetic about what happened, will not lose his spot atop the ECW roster.

Wow, just imagine what that could have done to RVD's career. He would basically get the Cena treatment for being the champ so long. I actually blame all the media outlets for ruining all this, because if they hadnt put the story out everywhere, WWE would keep it a secret and get RVD some help (which is basically the Randy Orton treatment). Lets just hope he gets back and wins the title again.

^^ As far as your media comment goes, it's a proven and given fact that the media hates wrestling, except for the people who moved to bigger things, i.e. Hogan, Rock, Jericho.  Anytime the mainstream media can get ahold of a story that has to do with something going wrong in the wrestling world, they're going to blast it everywhere they can.

It's a shame to see RVD lose this opportunity to get such a push as champion, but honestly it wouldn't be anything like Cena's title reign because he probably wouldn't defend the belt as much as him, based on how many ECW ppv's there are (I think they said they're planning another this year) and the fact that since it's only a 1 hour show, he wouldn't defend the title every week... would he?

I just hope that RVD proves himself quickly when he gets back and is able to get back to the top and stay on top for a long time.

Darn I liked RVD as champ and 1 year would have been fine with me. I agree that the media hates wrestling, but in return I hate the media (not just because of this) :P

I see alot of people blaming the media and it's really not there fault. RVD brought this on himself and he knew what the media would do if they ever caught a wrestler with drugs and such.

This sucks, but I do hope RVD does an Eddie and prove his worth through the months to come by focusing on his matches more than anything.

But what I am a little angry about is how Cena doesn't get his pushes slowed down because of his rowdy and unrepresentative behaviour out of work yet Randy Orton and others alike, do.

Cena didn't do anything wrong except get pissed at the fans

RVD ruined it for himself, the media made it a bit worse but it's all RVD's fault

I'm pretty sure Cena had one isolated incident after a week of taking abuse from fans whereas RVD got arrested and Orton has a long history of atitude problems.

I think RVD will do anything and everything to convince people he has been wrong, and I hope it's a matter of time for RVD to get back to the top of the mountain.

The Media does that with everything though, they always want to blow something out of proportion. There are a few scandals that come to mind, where there was wrong doing being done, but none that I will mention here, because I do not want an open flame being in this thread

It is a shame to see RVD lose this oppurtunity as champion as well, but I think the WWE frowned on him having the Vicodins aka the pain pills more then the Pot, because so many Wrestlers have died and overdosed from being addicted to that and taking those for years

I do not want to see anymore Wrestlers dies, because of Pain Killers and if RVD has a problem with them, he needs to be dealt with and get help

.... Or maybe it wouldn't have happened if RVD had been a professional while he was the **** world champion. I don't care if RVD smokes weed, that's his choice, and i doubt any rehab is going to change that. Putting himself in a position where he could be arrested for it was a conscious decision and unprofessional. I still can't believe people try to justify this. I don't blame Vince one bit if he doesn't ever give RVD the belt again. He had his chance and HE, no one else, blew it. End of story.

I enjoy RVD as much next wrestling fan...and dislike the mainstream media as much as next person, however, to say the media to blame for RVD's downfall...suspension, is nonsense. Sorry, but the only person to blame is RVD, and no one else. Granted, I think the situations is unfortunate...and while believe some of the anti-RVD folks are over-reaction bit, he certainly could have gotten worse, so see him as being lucky, if anything.

Hopefully, we will have learn lesson from this situation: keep from being caught by leaving marijuana at home, because lets be honest here...no amount of rehab is going to change his pot smoking ways...
