I thought about this whilst i was watching some of The Rock's clips during his Intercontinental Title reigns and with previous champions such as Razor Ramon, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, Bret Hart etc. going on to win the WWF/E Title and nowadays such champions as Santino Marella, William Regal, Umaga, Shelton Benjamin really keeping the title on that mid-card level without winning a World title yet. Years ago the Intercontinental Title was holded with such prestige that it featured on main events and untified with the WWF Title and now it has losted some of that prestige, although the title has been given to wrestlers like Jeff Hardy and CM Punk who go on to win (or in Punk's case again) world titles. So i ask is the Intercontinental Title, to you, a title that prepares wrestlers that are close to main event level or is it just a midcard and/or upper-card title just like The United States Title?

It's meant to be both. I mean, ultimately, the title is basically supposed to be a test run for potential main eventers to see how well they can carry themselves at the top of the midcard. Some end up taking the ball to next level and some don't. Whoever's holding the belt should be holding it for a reason, whether it's to put over someone else or help build someone into a main eventer by giving them experience on a smaller scale.

When I think IC title, I think big championship. But it always depends on the belt holder and his competition.

the thing is when guys like rock, bret and austin had the belt they had main event prowerless all over them they could make their promos or matches equal or in most cases better than the guy holding the wwf title......most guys getting their hand on I.C. title now can't put on a good promo and only half of them have matches that are decnt to watch
