well basicly you can start anywhere. you can start buying older dvds to catch up on the classics. but i recommend buying , Vendetta, Steel Cage Warfare and Final Battle 2005 and if they have a buy 3 get 1 free or 20% off deal, throw in Main Event Spectacles from 2003 or The Epic Encounter from 2003.

a lot of people will recommend Joe vs. Kobashi, but i recommend getting familiar with ROH first and then purchase it. it's a fantastic show and is a must buy.

If you're looking to get aqcainted with ROH, I would go with the 2nd Year Anniversary show. It is a solid card up and down, and shows you what type of show ROH can really put on, which is almost scary. As for the older shows, there are some really good ones out there. Basically anything with Punk on it can be considered a good buy and Death Before Dishonor is one of my favorite shows by them, thanks to Gary, because it's Paul London's last show (speaking of which, I need to add it to my collection).

Ever since being turned onto ROH in mid-December I've bought 7 DVDs since then.

- 2nd Year Anniversary
- World Title Classic
- Joe vs. Punk II
- Survival of the Fittest
- Steel Cage Warfare
- Punk: The Final Chapter
- Death Before Dishonor III

Those are all fantastic shows, and I really want to get some more when I get my next paycheck.

here's a good thing to do. if ur thinking about buying a certain show, look at the matches and if low ki, samoa joe, bryan danielson, austin aries, cm punk, roderick strong, homicide, christopher daniels, james gibson, aj styles, jack evans, alex shelley, jimmy rave, jay lethal, or colt cabana have any matches together...then it's a good dvd :D

there are more superstars, but that's the big guys for 2005.

Well, before I can recommend anything, I'd like to know what exactly you want to see.  Do you have a particular favorite superstar?  In order to give you the best bang for your buck, I could use a few guidelines to make sure you get a solid purchase.

let me expand on that.

do you like high flying action? technical wrestling? big guys? gimmick matches? tag teams?

Look for Jack Evans. That's all a fan of high-flying needs. :P

Also, I'd recommend this show, especially because of the Paul London-Michael Shane street fight.
Also, get this show...the scramble cage match is freaking amazing.

I'm considering getting another ROH DVD after a satisfiying first ROH DVD in Signs Of Dishonor. So is there a ROH show which is worth buying. (somewhere around 2006-2008, though i might get Anarchy in the U.K with Strong-Danielson on it as i didn't see the rest of the show either)

If you liked Sign of Dishonor, I'd reccomend working around the Summer of Punk, first. Overall, SOD is one of the weaker shows of the Summer of Punk and not a particularly strong ROH show overall. Play your sales right and you can get the shows they still have in stock cheap.

Summer of Punk:

Death Before Dishonor III: IMO, every CM Punk fan owes it to himself to track down this show.
Escape From New York: Out of Stock and probably going to be tough to track down. Punk-Strong is probably Punk's best title defense (including his WWE title defenses). Aires-Joe is as good a Pure Title match as there is.
Fate of An Angel: Second half of this show makes this one worth a look. AJ-Strong should sell itself. Joe-Rave is a little long, but satisfying. Matt Hardy-Daniels isn't spectacular, but its not bad and Punk-Gibson is really good.
Homecoming: Only SUmmer of Punk show I've skipped. Can't speak for or against it.
Redemption: Definately worth tracking down, especially if you can get it cheap. Very fun show overall. The 4 Way isn't perfect, but it has more than enough interesting threads and drama to make it a worthwhile watch. GenNext-Embassy 6 man is fun. Hardy-Homicide is a strong improvement for Matt.
Punk: The Final Chapter: Another must have for Punk fans. Punk-Cabana is actually pretty terrible, but it ain't about the match. Overall, a very strong show. May contain Matt Hardy's best match ever.

I don't think you can go wrong with Anarchy in the UK. It is a more solid show, overall, IMO than the previous night's Unified, with its amazing Tag Title match, overrated ROH Title match, and unsung Rave-Richards match (watch on mute, a group of kids in the audience detract from the match).

As far as Strong-Danielson goes, though, that is easily their weakest match. Vendetta is considered their best. I can't seperate it from the Supercard of Honor match, which some feel is overlong (Personally, it never feels long, but that's me). This Means War may be underrated and will make the other matches better, as they play off what is set in This Means War.

Off the top of my head, some shows to consider from 06-08:

06: Tag Wars 06 (Strong-Aires vs Danielson-Lethal, 6 Man Tag Tourney is very fun)
4 Year Aniversary (AJ-Sydal vs Aires-Strong is spectacular. Rave-Danielson is slept on, but great)
Dragon Gate Challenge (Good overall show. GenNext-BloodGen is almost as good as the heralded DG 6-Man from Supercard. Whitmer-Jacobs is great)
Supercard of Honor (In addition to the 6 Man and Strong-Danielson, AJ-Sydal vs Aires-Evans is awesome. Show does have weakpoints, though)
Better than Our Best (about as good as the title indicates)

07:
I'd look at the FYF shows and All Star Extrvaganza III and Supercard II.
Good Times, Great Memories is a great show.
Driven may be the best PPV offering, definately the best overall DVD.
Man Up- The Ladder match is must see, the rest of the show ain't bad, either.

08:
Dragon Gate Challenge II
Supercard of Honor III- IMO, the best ROH show ever.
Death Before Dishonor 6

Also, consider Nowhere to Run and Manhattan Mayhem They are other candidates for best ROH show.

I will list all the good shows from each year. I'll bold the Top 5 shows. Then I will name the best show of each year at the end.

2005 - Third Anniversary Part 2, Third Anniversary Part 3,  Stalemate, Manhattan Mayhem, Final Showdown, Nowhere to Run, The Future is Now, Death before Dishonor 3, Sign of Dishonor, Escape from New York, Redemption, Punk: The Final Chapter, Joe vs. Kobashi, Unforgettable, This Means War, Vendetta, Steel Cage Warfare, Final Battle 2005.

Best Show of 2005: Most people go with what is considered the most well rounded ROH show ever, Manhattan Mayhem, but the top dog is no doubt Nowhere to Run.

2006 - Hell Freezes Over, Tag Wars 2006, Dissension, Fourth Anniversary Show, Dragon Gate Challenge, Supercard of Honor, Better than our Best, The 100th Show, Weekend of Champions Night 1, Weekend of Champions Night 2, Ring of Homicide, Destiny, In Your Face, Chi-Town Struggle, Death before Dishonor IV, Generation Now, Fight of the Century, Unified, Anarchy in the UK, Glory by Honor V Night 1, Glory by Honor V Night 2, Honor Reclaims Boston, Dethroned, Chicago Spectarular Night 2, International Challenge, Final Battle 2006.

Best Show of 2006: Picking the top 3 isn't hard for 2006, but picking the #4 on the list is hardsince Unified, Final Battle 2006, Dragon Gate Challenge, and the very very underrated Honor Reclaims Boston are good choices for a Top 5 show of the year. Glory by Honor V Night 2 may have the best match in ROH history (ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson vs. KENTA), but the Wrestlemania shows outshine them. So the true contest is between Supercard of Honor and Better than our Best. Most people go with Better than our Best, but Supercard of Honor is my pick for the top show of 2006. It's not as consistent as Better than our Best, but it has easily the top 2 matches of the weekend (Blood Generation vs. DoFIXER and ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson vs. Roderick Strong).

2007 - Fifth Year Festival: NYC, Fifth Year Festival: Chicago, Fifth Year Festival: Liverpool, Fifth Year Festival: Finale, All Star Extravaganza III, Supercard of Honor 2, Fighting Spirit, Good Times Great Memories, Respect is Earned, A Fight at the Roxbury, Domination, Driven, Live in Tokyo, Race to the Top Tournament Night 2, Death before Dishonor V Night 1, Death before Dishonor Night 2, Manhattan Mayhem II, Man Up, Honor Nation, Glory by Honor VI Night 2, Rising Above, Final Battle 2007.

Best Show of 2007: I wish I was telling you the top 5 because both Death before Dishonor V shows are absolutely fantastic must see/buy shows. Driven is easily the best PPV they've done, plus it has the added bonus of the rematch between KENTA and Bryan Danielson, but the two FYF shows in Liverpool are hands down two of the best shows in ROH history. Finale has the emotional sendoff for Samoa Joe (his final show in ROH as a regular), and the epic brother vs. brother match, but I personally find that Liverpool has the better matches and more enjoyable stuff. Liverpool is hands down the best show of 2007.

2008 - Without Remorse, Eye of the Storm, Sixth Anniversary Show, Take No Prisoners, Dragon Gate Challenge 2, Supercard of Honor 3, Tag Wars 2008, Return Engagement, Respect is Earned 2, Vendetta II, Northern Navigation, Fueling the Fire, Death before Dishonor VI, The Tokyo Summit, Driven 2008, Glory by Honor VII, Bound by Hate, Rising Above 2008, Final Battle 2008.

Best Show of 2008: 2008 had some excellent shows, but they were too far apart from each other. The best show of 2008, and easily the best ROH show of all time, is Supercard of Honor 3. Just outstanding match after outstanding match. Don't believe me? Check out The_Dude's review of it in his blog.

2009 - Steel City Clash, 7th Anniversary Show, Supercard of Honor IV, Double Feature II (The Hunt Begins & Tag Title CIassic).

Best Show of 2009: Supercard of Honor IV, easily. 2009 has sucked so hard.

If you want to get the best out of everything I listed, RIGHT NOW ROH HAS A BUY 3, GET 2 FREE!, buy Supercard of Honor IV, Supercard of Honor I, Fifth Year Festival: Liverpool, and Fifth Year Festival: Finale, and Driven. After you buy those, check out Better than our Best, Nowhere to Run, Final Battle 2006, Manhattan Mayhem (2005), and Glory by Honor V Night 2.

About Homecoming: Punk/Daniels blows.

About the length of Strong/Danielson III: You hadn't been sitting there for 5 hours already and tired from jumping and cheering for the Dragon Gate 6 Man.

I understand that, from the live crowd's perspective. Despite the quality of the matches, that show has to be considered a pretty big booking miscue by Gabe.

However, that has very little to do with how it plays as a standalone match on DVD.

EDIT: I can't argue with just about anything on your list. Honestly, though, while I like the UK shows (and like you, prefer Liverpool over Finale), I like Good Times, Great Memories a lot more.

Honestly, I though Briscoe vs Briscoe was overrated. I honestly liked their earlier matches more (more appropriately, match. I've only seen the Aniversary Show match, which apparently isn't even as good as the Honor Invades Boston).
