WWE Monday Night RAW

Champions-only challenge
July 23, 2007

John Cena overcame another massive challenge to his WWE Championship when he defeated Bobby Lashley in a c_lassic at The Great American Bash. Meanwhile, Candice Michelle cemented her hold on the Women's Championship with a hard-fought victory over Melina. These two champions will unite when they team up on Raw to take on Intercontinental Champion Umaga and World Tag Team Champions Cade & Murdoch in the first-ever Champions Only Match.

One Superstar who had a milestone victory at The Bash was Randy Orton, who defeated Dusty Rhodes in a Texas Bull Rope Match to add another conquest to his long list of destroyed legends. However, Orton tried to severely injure the "American Dream" with a vicious punt to the head, but Dusty's son Cody intervened.

Cody, who would have suffered the same fate on Raw last week if his father had not stepped in, is now going to try to avenge his family when he challenges Orton in a rematch Monday night. Will Cody Rhodes teach Orton a lesson?

Find out the answers to these questions and more on Raw on Monday night at 9/8 CT on USA Network.

ECW on Sci-Fi

Still the man
July 24, 2007

On the last ECW on Sci Fi, the words "Johnny Nitro" were uttered for the final time as John Morrison revealed his true name. At The Great American Bash, he stopped talking and took care of things in the ring when he retained the ECW World Title against CM Punk. Has finally having the chance to be himself led Morrison to be an even more dominant champion?

Punk had a better night last week on ECW on Sci Fi, earning a win over Elijah Burke just one week after the Experience broke his losing streak against Balls Mahoney. How will ECW's Guiding Light respond to the loss? Has he reached another drought?

Also last week, Big Daddy V had a mammoth ECW on Sci Fi debut, leaving his teacher, Matt Striker, proud. What is next in the path of destruction for ECW's largest teacher's pet?

Find out the answers to all of these questions and more on the next ECW on Sci Fi on Tuesday at 10/9 CT.

I believe he'll be returning at Saturday Night's Main Event (in Madison Square Garden) on August 13. (August 18th air-time.)

I doubt Raw will be anything special tonight. Not very excited about this "Champions-only" match.

I thought Triple H was returning at Summerslam - well that's what the three 'Triple H returns' videos played last night at the Bash claimed.

I'll be watching RAW tonight. Can't say I'm too thrilled about seeing Cena reduce the Tag Team and Intercontinental titles nonetheless.

How dare you mock Cena's booking? WWE booking is the best booking ever. It makes ROH booking look like horseturd booking. How can you get bored of Cena? He's an amazing athlete and always comes up with new moves to entertian the audience, and his promos have very good grammar and the jokes have punchlines that make the best comics sound like crap. He deserves to go over these guys, WWE booking did a fantastic job of making the other titles have no value because only John Cena needs to look good. It's common sense.

His first match will probably be at Summerslam. I think he'll make a "surprise" return to milk the pop and set up that match.

If I recall, all his return build-up promos in 2002said he'd return atthe Royal Rumble, but he came back at a Raw to milk the pop from the surprise for all its worth and did the whole "I'm back" promo and set up a feud with Kurt Angle. I imagine he'd do the same here too. I'm guessing return won't mean first appearance, but first match.

Well, I still love Mickie James.

Melina has the most inconsistent looks of all the WWE ladies. Some nights show looks good others she look kinda disgusting. tonight was a pretty good night.

Decent women's tag match.

Oh man I crack myself up.

Cody Rhodes leaves bumping into Orton...

...

...

"You did this to yourself!"

EDIT: And apparently I'm the only person who found that funny.

Anywho, if you told me one year ago that I'd be watching the Sandman and Hacksaw Jim Duggan team up, I would have laughed at you. Why would I ever watch that? Much less why would it happen and yet here I am.

If you told me a year ago that Jim Duggan was still wrestling, I'd look at you like you were crazy.

If Vince McMahon told me a year ago that Hacksaw Jim Duggan was wrestling on Raw while Paul London wasn't, I might have slapped him.

Was it just me or did falling off the top rope and nearly knocking him the **** out seem to fire Jeff Hardy up?

That was also one of the more bizarre botches I've seen. It didn't really look he was in that much trouble but it looked nasty.

Good finish, too. It sets these two up for more matches and they can develop into a solid feud. Kennedy should not be sacrificed to Cena.

Well timed "Don't try this at home."

That was, IMO, one of the best TV shows WWE has put on in a long time.

Booker got good exposure, WGTT picked up a solid win, Jeff looked real good (besides the botch), little exposure ofBobby Lashley, no Snitsky squash, etc.

The best part was the RKO at the end. I really didnt think the Cody feud was over and Snitsky would headline Summerslam. But Orton vs Cena can be a damn good feud, one im actually looking foward to. The fact that Cena actually has a chance at losing makes it better.

Hahaha the ref missed the mat when he was counting so everyone thought it was 3 on 2 and it ended up being like a 5 count.

Not surprised by the ending on Raw, Cena over coming the odds to get the win. Thankfully Orton being #1 contender salvaged the last few minutes of Raw.

Not a bad Raw over all...it was bearable.

Kennedy and Jeff Hardy was easily MOTN, I was a little disappointed with the ending (Kennedy losing) but this will set up some future matches between the two which I am all for.

WGTT and the Londricks was a pretty damn good match as well. Finally they gave Shelton and Hass a win, it's about damn time. The leap frog German suplex with bridge finisher was pretty sick.

Again to reiterate, not a terrible Raw, some good parts of it made the overall product watchable so for once I'm not pissed about watching wrestling.

A one on one PPV match between John Cena and Randy Orton has been a long time in coming and its a match I'm actually really looking forward to and have been looking forward to for wuite a while. I think these two match up well and Orton has quietly had a great year, and picked up his game even more after the contreversial hotel trashing. Since going back to what works, being a Legend Killer... with no remorse, he's gotten back the credibility he lost thanks to Triple H and the Undertaker and looks like a legitimate threat. With another ( and the first since HBK went down) viable babyface option set to return, it may finally be time to dethrone Cena and there's actual reason to believe that they may. At least there is finally some doubt, which should help. A PPV main event I'm excited about, its pretty refreshing. Its enough to make me overlook theludicrousmain event.

Raw was decent. It really picked up in the second hour.

Decent Raw...I don't feel like going in-depth.

I am looking foward to Cena/Orton. IMO, this is far more of a "dream match" than Cena vs. Lashley.

Hardy/Kennedy was PPV material. Kudos to Hardy for picking it up despite a couple of nasty landings. I'm not a big fan of countout victories but it was done nicely following the reversals near the tron. I hope we see another encounter between these two soon.

I'm excited now about Cena/Orton at Summerslam. It's about time they had a PPV match and it's going to be at one of the big 'uns which makes it that more exciting. It beats seeing Lashley in that spot regardless. On that note of him, damn - Carlito? I wouldn't have seen him fall from the main-event the night before to having a pretty crap segment with Carlito. A fall that is alright. I've got a feeling Orton's going to pick up the strap at Summerslam, retain it a few times against Cena and then defend it against Hunter at 'Mania 24. That's just what I'm predicting based on some of the rumours I've read about Triple H wanting to have a long programme with Orton following his return. It makes sense too since he hasn't actually been near the title scenario for a good two years or so. Then again, based on Booker's objective to be the King of Kings, it may just wait till Trips is done sorting him out. Either way, I'm not that fussed.

Segment between Team 3D, Steiner Brothers and VKM is good example of two my biggest pet-peeves in wrestling: face turns based on sympathy and "other guy" talk.

Face turns based on sympathy: whether it be Triple H's return from quad injury in 2002 or Hardcore Holly's return after brutal cut to the back, it does not matter - I cannot stand it when audience supports wrestler simply due to the fact "they feel sorry for them."

From what I can remember, it has rarely ever worked, because, the simple of the matter truth is that it feels forced, due to the feeling that if it were not for them being hurt in some fashion or another, you would probably be booing that wrestler regardless. Why? Simple: they are still the same character as they were before the injury, and therefore, in all likely hood, will be the same, afterwards.

Also, for my liking, it feels force because, after all, "what kind of sick person would boo the guy who has recovered from serious injury"?

In addition, does not help matters in this case, that Scott Steiner practically majority of his career since 1998, has been heel dominate personality (as the case was with Triple H and Hardcore Holly).

"Other guy" talk: this is the same problem I had with WCW, back in the day. Rather than build things on their product, or current happenings, instead, they are buildings things mostly based on the idea on what happened in another product, in another time. My problem with it is simple: wrestling is about building, right? Well, how in the world can you build something, when you are stuck in one spot?

I think history should be taken into account, however, should be kept as minor point, rather than that of vocal.

In regards to everything else, why mention the likes of WWF, WCW and ECW? Imagine there are portion of their viewers who do not even know what they are talking about.

Plus, in all of that, the main feeling I get is that they are talking about everything but TNA. In short, my problem with it how can you build legacy of your own, when you are busy talking about everyone else's legacy but your own?

Obviously, these ratings must have nothing to do with that guy who kinda used to work here and his little incident and everything to do with WWE facing stiff competition from reading the Harry Potter book.

Even though we all know wrestling fans can't actually read.
