Topic title..
what about "recycled" xboxes. People sell their Xbox back to places like gamestop, gamecrazy, bookmans, etc. Should that count as a sale, if somebody buys a used xbox? same with ebay, amazon, etc. I dont think it would be possible to track something like that though.Talldude80
NO.
That doesn't count as a sell, otherwise you'd have to count like that for PS2, GC's, VCR's, TV's, Cars, etc. THat's some VERY FLAWED LOGIC right there.
The bottomline M$ manufactured a certain number of units, and that's how many they sold.
Sony, for instance has sold over 120 MILLION PS2's, and the same for PSOne as well, but if we started counting all the used units sold, that number would DOUBLE.
[QUOTE="Rossuron"]That's a lot of Xboxes!Mochyc
Actually that's nothing compared to the other consoles. According to Jaysonguy, it sold 24 in 6 years whereas the 360 has already sold 10 in 1 year.
Well, You or JaysongGuy is incorrect then.
The Xbox console was stopped being manufactured in March of 2005. So truthfully, M$ sold 24 Million (About) From November 2001 to March 2005 (Yes, well before the 360 EVEN CAME OUT.)
That is only a period of 3 1/2 years. Supposing they sold out there inventory by November, that's 24 million in 4 years.
Also, the 360 had ZERO next gen competition to sell 10 million in One Year (Also, it's been proven by M$ that they actually didn't sell 10 million in it's first year, around only 7-8 million), whereas the Xbox had to sell against the PS2, Dreamcast (In the beginning), and GC during it's time.
The 360's numbers aren't that impressive when you also note, that it had momentum from Halo 2 and Xbox the second time around.
Hope that helps.

NO the number of units built is not equal to the number of units sold. There are still stores out there that have NEW Xbox units collecting dust, or in warehouses. And who knows, maybe M$ still has some left. But they stopped production to concentrate on the 360.
if the number of units manufactured equaled units sold, then systems like the jaguar would have been a success. and the ps3 would be looking ALOT better right now (instead of just taking up shelf space at stores)

Yes, I do realize this. For the sake of Brevity, I didn't expound and articulate my thought's well enough, apparently. As far as I know in all major store M$'s orginal Xbox's are sold out (I'm talking Target, Walmart, Gamestop, Best Buy, etc.). It is certainly possible that there are more units out there though. My overall point to demonstrate Used sales don't work.
I do want to point out as well, that it is a myth that M$ cancelled the Xbox to concentrate on the 360, as the reality is the Xbox was a SINKING Ship that M$ needed to Ostracized. They cancelled production March of 2005, a mere few months after HALO 2 came out. Unknown to the world, M$ knew Halo 2 was their Last Major Title (Nov 2004), and after they recoup much of their losses on that title they were abondoning SHIP (The Entire Xbox Brand = $$4 BILLION in LOSSES). Many months later, X-mas f 2005 did they release the 360.
