And Oblivion would have been more to my taste if they would have followed in the vein of Morrowind.

They changed basically all of the gameplay mechanics. To the worse in my opinion.

Oblivion and Morrowind are completely different games. I don't think it's fair to compare them...

I have them both and do have to agree that Morrowind is better than Oblivion, but Oblivion does do a few things better than Morrowind.

I played them both the very first day they came out. I love both. The experience was very diffferent between the two. I don't know why but morrowwind really unlocked a passion in me to steal things. I remember trying for a whole month to get this claymore in one of the guard towers in balmora (its been awhile did I spell it right?) It was not worth a whole lot when I finally got it ,but it sure was fun. I went through so many failed attempts. Everything from invisibility potions to flying scrolls. It was like an episode of looney tunes. I pretty much played morrowwind like I play gta though. To kill 10 minutes or so. I would steal things, explore, mess around with people. The atmossphere was great and the audio was awesome. Especially being in balmora when its thundering and lightning and all the lights are turned off andmy subwoofer and speakers are turned up. Despite all that though I never got really sucked into the game. I got bored with the main questline half way through and after completeing a few guild quest lines I finally put it up.

As much as I loved morrowwind, I was not all that excited about oblivion when I first got it because of all of that. However as soon as I first unwrapped the package and placed the disc in my 360 for the very first time, I was hooked. I was so immersed in it it was like one big dream and before I knew it 2 months had past. I did everything in that game. I'm not really all that much of a hardcore gamer. But I was spending upwards of 12 hours a day on there. As of right now I can not find a single sidequest I have not done already and have gotten all 60 achievements. I only wish there was more.

My preference is easily oblivion, but morrowwind is still definitely one of the best games I own.

I think it is fair to compare them because they are in same franchise. You're right that they are too different games though. If they weren't both Elder Scrolls games, then I really wouldn't worry about comparison though.

imo i think morrowind was better in letting you kill who ever you wanted and let you screw up the game your self lol, the theft system was better and thats about it really. oblivions spell casting, horses, melee, and every thing else is better. i never used magic in morrowind. but oblivion really makes it easy(er) than what morrowind. oh and one more advantage to morrowind the Mora Tong-i think thats how you spell it- and the Great Houses. even tho you can find two agents in Oblivion

I have tried playing Morrowind, but not too seriously. Since I keep reading on the forums how much fun people have playing it, I will have to give the game another try.

How long does it take to get thru the game, if I don't try to rush it?

Yeah, I'm around halfway or so through what can be done on one game and I'm at 100 hours.

I loved Ocarina of Time. It was a great game. For me it just doesn't compare to the scale of Morrowind, though.

Yep, Morrowind was more enjoyable for me than OoT. Don't get me wrong, that one's a classic, but then again, so is Morrowind, and it's more than a classic in my mind.

Ocarina of Time is a different game, but I'll tell ya, it wasn't as immersive as Morrowind for me. I liked Oblivion's new mechanics, but I really despised the new skillset.

Skills that shouldn't have been merged were, and some skills were removed altogether; it's like going from Daggerfall to Morrowind and instead of new skills being presented to compensate for skills that were removed, you got a flashy new combat system that's been done before (although more simply) in games like Breakdown.

When I get a 360, I will buy and finish Oblivion and its expansions, but I do not expect to get out of it what I was able to get from Morrowind.
