Just because this game has HORRID graphics everyone hates this game...but the gameplay is the best ive ever played in any game online. the maps are 20 square KM big and you can make your own missions with an insanely complicated mission editor. there are 30+ vehicles and 30+ weapons to use and this game is SO realisitic. No other game even comes CLOSE to this game in realism. Even with some of the best gameplay, if the graphics are horrible, the game automatically sucks. most people probably havent even heard of this game.

so my question:

why is everybody such a graphic wh ore?

I've heard of it, and I LOVE it. I just wish that I could run Armed Assault on this dated PC, because I think it's even better. Still, OFP:E is a must-have for any Xbox gamer, especially those with Live accounts. Creating co-op maps to try and beat with your friends is great fun.

I think the game got that little attention because the PC version "Operation Flashpoint" was already released in 2001 and the gameplay is almost identical. So every serious gamer who is interested in this kind of games already had it.

The modability and the great, very easy to use mission editor lead to the development of a huge fanbase who created and played a huge chunk of new custommade content, including whole total conversions, complete new campaigns, new factions, new islands, etc. etc.

When the xbox version came out, everyone who would want that game already had it for the pc, and if you have the choice between the xbox version and the pc version I would recommend you get the pc version because of that described huge amount of custom content you can download and play or free.

There is no reason to get the xbox version really. The missioneditor lacks a good deal of features to make it usable with a gamepad and of course you can only download the missions created for the xbox game, which pale besides the thousands of missions, campaigns, new factions etc. that the pc version has to offer nowadays, as the modding community has been very active in the past years.

The xbox version is only interesting for those whose pc can't run the pc version, but the requirements are rather low, seeing that this game is from 2001, and almost everyone should have a pc capable of running OPF by now.

It is true that the xbox version's graphics look better than the pc version's, but there are unit replacements, texture replacements, etc. you can download for the pc version so it looks even better than the xbox version.

So, of course "Operation Flashpoint Elite" is an excellent game, but its PC counterpart stole the show a long time ago.

Still, if you don't have the pc version, or if you don't want to have it, e.g. your computer is too slow, you prefer to play on the console for added comfort, etc. the xbox version is an awesome game and apart from its pc counterparts its a one-of-its-kind kinda game.

There are more realistic infantery simulations (Red Orchestra, Raven Shield), there are more realistic tank simulations (Steal Beasts, Steal Beasts Pro) and there are more realistic Flight simulations (IL2 Stumvoik) but there is nothing out there that combines all this to one huge battle simulations on a comparable level of realism!

It's definately one of the best games out there for the XBOX, single player and online. And as far as graphics go, OPF:E has alot of games beat in alot of ways. For one, for a game its scale, it really pack in alot of details- grasses swaying, insects flying, and unbelievable texture work- individual fibers in clothing, highly detailed wood, metal, etc. The lighting is simply unmatched, well Splinter Cell is close, and it has alot of cool effects such as focus blur in iron sights, great damage effects, and a pretty cool water system. That's just graphics wise. Gameplay wise, it's absolutely unrivaled for all the things it does so well. I've logged more hours in this game than any other, and I'd still play online if my account hadn't ran out. I still like to play some of the missions just because of the realism, freedom, and tension the game offers.
