Hello. I've just joined Gamespot primarily because I'm trying to become a hardcore gamer. I've been playing games on and off for about 9 years. (It's not really that much, if you count only the times I was playing, it's only about half a year) I'm trying to devote more time to gaming however, I didn't really enjoy playing Halo when I got it for my Xbox. (I got a used Xbox during the summer) It's pretty fun playing offline multiplayer, however I lose a lot at it. So, can any of you give me some good game ideas that can get me more into gaming? Thanks in advance.

Regards, Ice

Well for starters, are there any particular types of games that you like? Not all genres will appeal to all gamers naturally. There are some really great titles available for xbox, and some of them can be found for very reasonable prices these days, which is a plus... Honestly, I would just play what you like, at a pace that you can afford (that is, in terms of both time and money) and have as much fun as you can...

Well form experience, to get better you might want to get Xbox Live. Next, start saving for a Xbox 360, it's so awesome and you will get sucked in very quick. But to get started play some of the top titles for the original Xbox. Plus you can get them pretty cheap!

Ok. Well do you recommend Fable? At a store near me they have a used copy of the original Fable for about $6 and Fable: The Lost Chapters (new) for about $10. Which should I get if you think I should get either?

Get Fable: The Lost Chapters. It adds afair bitmore content.

As for becoming more hardcore, my recommendation would be to take $40 go to GameStop and buy as many games as you can. Two weeks ago, I got 7 games for $30. Get from many different genres. That way you can experiment and find out if there is a certain type of game that you really enjoy.

Find a genre you like and stick with it. Then, practice, practice, practice. Once you have gotten very good at a particular genre, you will want to spread your wings and open yourself up to other types of games and that is when you start accepting games for what they are and not just choosing what to play by its genre.

And when you can start playing any game and truly like it, no matter what genre, then you have become a hardcore gamer. That, and also spending ridiculous amounts of hours playing every day, week, month, and year.

Thanks Cos_Vanquish and everyone else for your insites. I think I might pick up Fable after I finish a couple of the games I have right now. Just for the record though, do you know any other games that I might enjoy?

Take a perusal through my collection. Most of the games there are ones that I would recommend.

But off the top of my head, Max Payne... (just played it, lol).

Simple. Beat Ninja Gaiden and you'll be hardcore. Ninja Dog mode doesn't count. If you managed to beat Ninja Gaiden Black on Hard before the end of the year I'd be amazed.

Oh, that's just sadistic...

I've made it to the Horseman boss a couple of times, but then I got too angry to continue...

You aren't the only one. Lots of people get to a certain point and just give up. It's a shame because you've missed out on one of the best games ever made.

I've beat hard and very hard difficulty. I wouldn't say I'm better at games than most other people. You don't need to be some kind of gaming phenomenon to beat it. You just need to practise and keep trying. You aren't really that far in though. What difficulty were you playing on? Please don't say Ninja Dog!

Heh. No. Normal. One of these days I'm going to try it again, because I've heard great things about the game, but I haven't been able to motivate myself to do so.

Stick at it. Trust me. Kill the mages for health to heal or charge for "super attack" or ET, as they are really known. And make sure you get the UF ASAP. It is amazing.

Personally, I'd wait until it was cheaper. It's definitely not a game that I would pay that much for. But that's my own personal opinion.

I got Ninja Gaiden from Blockbuster for $5. Thank god, cuz I didn't like it that much, not because it was too hard, I'm just not a fan of action games.

In all honesty, the only reason I currently have it is because some guy I don't really know lent it to me and never came back to collect it. $5 is about the most I would pay for it. But that's just me. I don't want to say it's nota good game, but it's not quite at the most appropriate level of gameplay.

If you have nothing constructive to contribute, than don't post. Simple as that. Besides that is spam what you just posted and I doubt mods tolerate it.
