Maybe it's just a random name they gave it.

What does Playstation or Gamecube mean? Just names I presume.

Its a box with an X on top of it.

 

What do you mean, what does it mean? What the X stands for?

I don't know. 

Maybe X like the mathematical variable, something unknown.

Lol i thought everyone who owned an xbox knew this, but i guess im wrong. When MS made the basis of the xbox the directx 8.1. they named it something like directxbox and that sounded clunky so they called it xbox

Yup! That's true, it would've been stupid for a game console to be called DirectXbox right? So that's why it's called Xbox

Wow.  I didn't know that.  Guess you learn somthing ever day.

I just thought they called it the X-box because it kinda sounded cool.
