Halo was never about the graphics for me. I've just always had fun playing through the campaigns and enjoy the multiplayer to a certain extent. The gameplay is the most important thing to me.

Does it matter what is good about it? Lots of people like it. This does not necessarily mean it is good (e.g. film Titanic) but it does mean that lots of people like it.
Perhaps you like it, in which case I don't understand the point of the question. Perhaps you don't like it, in which case I don't understand the point of the question. Perhaps you know nothing about the game apart from the name and reputation, in which case just play the game and form your own opinion.
Co-op, multiplayer, the feeling of fighting aliens in a strange world and escaping it, also I'm a fan of Sci-Fi Game shooters and such. So this fits the cake or shoe...
I'm still impressed by the graphics in halo 2 (little water effects, light bouncing off the gun) apart from the look of the plasma pistol - that just looks butt ugly. What makes halo good is it's simplicity, you don't have to be an expert or even a FPS fan to enjoy it.
Maybe the reason that it's campaigns are soo fun to play and the multiplayer is even better than the single player game(DUH!) anywayz it's originality, the characters etc....So one question for you... Have YOU played Halo 1/2 ever in your life????
Well, apart from the fact that Halo was made so popular since it was launched with the original Xbox release (just how Gears of War was made so popular) it's also because of it's originality (eg: characters, levels, weapons, storyline, gameplay). Just as some people have already said, it's a fun game for just about anyone. The multi-player in Halo 2 has also had a HUGE impact on it's "greatness" if you will. Not to mention all the marketing that has gone into the Halo series. So, in combining all those factors, you get your answer.
By the way, have you ever played Halo 1 or 2? Judging by your question, you haven't. I believe that the people who say that Halo sucks is because they suck at playing it or they've just never played it before. But that's only my opinion.Â

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Not everyone in the world likes Ferrari's, if you catch my drift - as crazy as that may seem. I guess Halo just isn't his cup of tea.
It's because Halo is a good FPS for consoles. Halo for PC is pretty good too, but there's better on the PC. Halo was the most epic fps experience on consoles when it came out. It had great control, AI, and multiplayer for a console FPS. You probably won't find any better on any system.
