The original Xbox will ROCK as long as you want it to.Â
Microsoft has stopped producing original Xboxes obviously because of the release of the 360. You won't see any new "big" releases for the original Xbox nor any new cool accessories and Xbox Live features. So, to sum all that up, the general public uses the term "dead".
If you search the Xbox forum, you'll find related topics that may give you a better idea. Â
By the way, is it official that there will be no more new releases for the XBox? Not even the sports games, which they love to clog the store shelves with? What was the LAST game released for the XBox?garey017
The last game to be released was MLB 2k7 back in February. You will see some sports games being released (Madden 08, NCAA Football 08 and FIFA 08) but that's all you're going to see. All the development companies don't want to waste their time on last gen. systems.
Because unlike sony, microsoft knows how to sell a console. If xbox conistently released games after the 360's launch the 360 would not have sold as many consoles as it did (or atleast not as fast). I mean look at the ps3. PS2's are outselling the ps3 (granted its outselling everyone). If sony stopped games for the ps2 after God of war or something and made the rest of the games for ps3 than the ps3 would be selling alot more. Kudos to microsoft for seeing past this possibly horrible mistake.Â

Or is it Kudos for Sony for not throwing the PS2 players under the bus???

It wouldn't be throwing them under the bus. PS2 has PLENTY of games. Enough to over-satisfy the PS2 users. I believe the 360 has outsold the PS3 because of the price tag and because of better games released.
The Xbox died becasue the 360 is way better. microsoft in consentrating intierly on the 360 ever scene it came out. so they just stop making game for the Xbox.
Â
ps: i'm surpies, i though the gamecube would be the first to go. but it looks like the Xbox was pushing up daisys first.
of course its not dead. listen to all the people here that still use it. When we all upgrade and don't play it anymore it still is a great console for movies etc. Much better than the PS2, especially if you have the XBMC dash.
No im not gunning for a banning talking about mods, but seriously that particular dash ups the stakes for the Xbox console 100%.

about the better games being out. i remember this time last year. 360 was slowly getting games out the door, there was kinda a lull between good launch games and more good games out in general. the ps3 is going through the same dry spell that the 360 did. im guessing that spell will last till september-october. i dont favor one company over the other. i thought the XboX (origional) was the better of the 2 and now i think PS3 is the better of the 2 systems. what kicked PS3 in the ass was the non-variety of good games at launch. lets see what good games there were at launch..........Resistance. this wasent sony's fault. most of the "launch" games sony had planned to be out come time got delayed. Mercenaries, oblivion, fear, vegas were all susposed to be out sooner. on the other hand, 360 had great launch AND it was out a year before the other 2. so if you wanted to be awed by next gen graphics, you got a 360.
who cares about the launch of new game titles and consoles. He wants to know why the xbox is dead.
Its not, period. Â
It has nothing to do with MS wanting people to buy the 360. Microsoft had to make manufacturing deals with various vendors to produce the Original Xbox because of this MS didn't own the property rights to the hardware (thats why 360 isn't as BC as the PS3).Â
The processor was a slightly modified Intel Pentium III 733Mhz while the GPU was procured from Nvidia (a cross between a GeForce 2 & GeForce 3). Sometime in late 2005 early 2006 Nvidia made an announcement stating that they had stopped production of the GPU, hence the death of the Original Xbox.
As lomg as you have games you find interesting on the normal xbox, its still interesting and alive.
AND GREAT!
This man has either done his homework, or taken a degree in the Art of BS
Cos that was the best explaination I've ever heard :lol:DarkManiaN_1979
He, he, not BS, its all fact. Shame though. I still have my old Xbox but its now in the spare room, hooked upto a 15" SDTV (Xbox looks better on a SDTV). Still play it from time to time. I'm considering sending it to a repair shop to replace the DVD laser as some games won't load or they keep crashing.

the xbox hjust doesn't have as extensive caalogue of games as the PS2, the only last gen system with real staying power. It also doesn't help that the 360 was the firs out meaning the xbox has had even less attentionDantes_Monkey

Sounds to me like your bias and don't really appreciate the Xbox. Without getting into a system war in here, i'll just say this: The Xbox wasn't around nearly as long as the PS2 was, & PSX had already given them a huge name for the Sony corp in the gaming industry.Â
Considering what the Xbox accomplished in the time it was current, I'd have to say that Playstation in general had their hands full. Now i'd like to add that I'm a Loyal PS anything fan, but I also appreciate Xbox and the MS gaming corp. Â
