There is Lord of the Rings: The Third Age (the Third Age is the age the movies take place in). It seems to be quite interesting but I haven't played it yet. I plan to get it though.
The Third Age
Be carefull when you buy it! Don't confuse it with the other Lord of the Rings games on the xbox. I think there are some and they all seemed like mediocre action games to me.
Then there is Gladius, which I haven't played either but according to gamespot it is supposed to be pretty good. Its turnbased, but not completely like FF or Grandia. Characters can also be moved around and there is a weird golf-game-like attack function. If you watch the videoreview you should get a pretty good idea of the game.

The "Knights of the Old Republic" games are very good games too, and the combat is turnbased. I played the first one on the pc but the xbox version is supposed to be the same with slightly worse graphics and a slightly problematic framerate. It shouldn't be too distracting due to the turn-based nature of the game. They are not like FF either. More like a more obviously turnbased version of Neverwinter Nights with more characters, if that tells you anything. :P Anyway, I'd say it is hard not to like them if you are into any sort of virtual role-playing so I recommend these to you too.
Thanks man! Im abou to go pick it up today. Good thing GameStop is like a 2minute walking distance from my house.SuperAgentZero
I really enjoy the game, so I have to recommend it.
Go for Morrowwind: GOTY edition. Combat is weak but it is a fun game.halobeatdown77
I prefer the combat in Morrowind to that of Oblivion...
Xbox RPG? Which one, KOTOR 1 or 2??svetzenlether
What about all of the other ones? Enclave, Arx Fatalis, or any of the other ones already mentioned?
I got the sarcasm, but it's only good when it's accurate...
I would BARELY classify enclave as an RPG.Fig455
I don't have it, but I remember hearing of it...
Firstly, as a fan of RPGs, I have to say that one of the most infamous and best-selling RPG games of all time, would have to be Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II The Sith Lords. This is an amazingly gifted and very detailed video game, the graphics are spectacular. But, this isn't about the details, it's about the storyline and the gameplay. Anyway, one of the coolest things in this game, is the fact that you are capable to build your own lightsaber, from the crystal, to the style of your body. Also, it's the sequel to the 2003 Game of the Year. Regardless, if you are looking for a very well-made RPG game, then this is the game for you, no matter if you like Star Wars or not.Lil_Manning
Most infamous? Why is it infamous?

Lord of the Rings: the 3rd Age is most definitely the closest game to Final Fantasy out of everything on the Xbox. It's basically a FFX clone. I liked it a lot.

I saw it over Thanksgiving Break for $10 at Kmart. I guess I should have gotten it. I got Oddworld Stranger's Wrath and Darkwatch for $10 apiece instead.
