if you dont have a 1080p TV then you wont be able to use 1080p or it wont look any different. Either way, theres no point (1080p is better)

If your TV supports it than its just as good.. but I think the hz comes into play then as well. It also depends on how big your tv is. If you get a hudge one like a 62'' like my parents tv, the games you play on it wont look quite as good because its being stetched out. It looks amazing dont get me wrong but alot of games, their native resolution is 720p. thats why I like how sony puts the games native resolution on the back of the games.. unlike microsoft that just has HD 720p/1080p..

1. 1080i is worse than 720p because:

a. LCD and Plasma TVs are built with progressive scanning on mind

b.Your TV has to convert it from interlaced to progressive unless you have a CRT HDTV

2. Should you use 1080p:

a. Only if your TV is bigger than 40" otherwise you wont notice the difference

b.Console games are native 720p, at least the majority, so having 1080p isnt really giving you much

that most games have their native res at 720p? most do. The bigger the TV the lower the quality of the picture.. FOR EXAMPLE, if you play Diablo 2, Its native res is like 800x650 or something like that. You play it on a 20" Its going to terrible. But if you play in window mode it looks good because its playing at its native res. Sure it might not work the same way today, but to a point it still does the same.
