hey people, i got stuck with the 3 red lights a while back, and thought i may as well try the 12 penny fix

the machines starts and the fans kick into overdrive, and then the two red lights come on, which according to MS

are indicative of overheating

anyone had similar experience with the 12 pennygot any ideas / suggestions? thanks

sounds like your homemade heatsinks aren't working. you should try ripping it apart and putting the pennies back in again.

can it overheat in the first few seconds of operation? i thought if the fans were busted then maybe, but the fans work.

i may just trade in my PSP and get a new 360 with an extended warranty this time

Look here on the Xbox 360 Discussion thread. THere is the way to do it a way down that page. That is where this should be in the first place.

It's a thermal paste that is inersted between a heatsink and some sort of chip (Generally a CPU, GPU, or other hotspot). It fills in microscopic holes in the surface and makes for more efficient heat dispersion. Us computer geeks love it.

That means its overheating. It usualy happens when you have overtightened the screws atleast thats what i have read. Here read this topic all the way through http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=606431&st=30. I think someone said somewhere that you need to mess around with the screws for some time. Anyway il be trying this method myself today.
