Hi All,

I recently started playing Assassin's Creed 2 on my Xbox 360 and it seems like every time I play the game for longer than 10 minutes or so the graphics start looking like they're 16 bit (people who have played games on the PC and have had to optimize their graphics settings might recognize the difference). In short, the darker areas start looking greenish and the color range become much smaller than it actually is. I'm currently running the game from Hard Disk. My Xbox was bought on Ebay for 20 bucks, it had an RROD which my friend fixed using the "blanket method".

Please let me know if anyone else has had the same problem and if they know of a solution. Assassin's Creed 2 is the only game so far that has exhibited this problem (for comparison, I also have played Mini Ninjas, Dragon Age, Fallout 3 and none of them showed this issue).

Thanks.

Maybe it's because your using a dodgy 360. Buy a decent one and it'll be fine. Even a 16 bit console is worth more than 20 bucks.

he means 16-bit color depth people. dont worry TC i know what u mean. ummm im pretty sure its ur 360's GPU...again or the cables are screwed up. try viewing in both HD and non HD. see if any other console looks messed up on ur tv because it might be ur TV. try another game and see if the game is corrupt. Most likeky ur 360's dying again. call MS

Pretty sure it's not my TV. I will check the other games again but so far Assassins Creed 2 is the only game that has demonstrated this problem. I have a spare cable lying around some where so I shall check that as well.

I don't really think MS will help me out here. I got no warranty and no seal.

P.S. The blanket method is a way of Fixing the RROD where you cover the Xbox in a blanket and let it overheat. Then turn it off, let it rest for a half hour and run it. I've seen it work 4 times now :).

Your 360's gpu is dying. Which isn't surprising considering you paid $20 for a used console that was dying from the start most likely. Save up some money and buy a new Xbox 360.

Wrap the Xbox in Hot Towels to overheat it more, until it works. It sometimes does.. Try re-installing. Might be a corrupt file.

That's most commonly known as the towel trick. People still know what you're talking about though lol

It's not the cables, not the game, not a corrupt file. How do I know this..... because the console's GPU just died :D. I'm getting the "Sound but no video" problem. I think the 16 bit graphics was a precusor to that.

I'll see on getting a new one, but given the number of problems I have seen with Xbox's (both new and used) I might just stick to my PC.

Youre Xbox is dead then? If your GPU died, and you have nor warranty, i doubt you can fix it unless you find a repair-man who has that part.

How hot is the inside of your home? Are you placing it next to output fans from a TV or next to the radiator? Try getting an intercooler if its an overheating problem. You can get one off the site in my sig for free. Its cheap on the site, and it work really well. The link provides you with all the information you need to get it. I have one and i hooked it up to another switch that regulates the internal temp. I keep mine at around 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

The 16 bit problem is still there. I guess I'll have to see how much more mileage I can get out of this thing before it completely dies.

The overheating GPU is caused by a badly applied thermal gel between the GPU & Heatsink. u could essentially buy some thermal gel, opne ur xbox rub of the older one with alchol and replace the new one. The towel trick is just a emulation of what thermal gel does much more efficiently. You will either have to get a new xbox or just buy some thermal gel 7 apply it. Its quite stupid rly. all these defect consoles are just consoles with a lack of thermal gel to keep the hear from escaping. This is the same issue with defective wii's and the video artifact issue, I have that issue. i cant replace the thermal gel though because the damn thing is so compact that if i took it apart it would be a suicide mission to put it back together & hope for it to work correctly again. The 360 on the other hand is very easy to open and examine without damaging the hardware. look into replaceing the thermal gel. 99% of RROD is caused by this thermal gel issue. i remember when i got the 16bit video. i was playing halo 3 then xbox crashed. I opened it up (broke my warrenty) and replaced the thermal gel. i got it working again., but sadly i forgot to let the gel properly dry so it oozed off and crashed again. thank goodness my uncle is the GPU hardware manager for the console & he got me a new one heheheh :D

With a VGA cable in the equivalent resolution to 1080p. Actually I did the towel trick again, and this time the green is gone. Everything seems to be running fine.

We understand that, but it doesn't change the fact that the topic title says 16 bit graphics and not colors....

Whatever. This guy has a bricked console and he did the towel trick. Soon it will RRoD again. There's nothing wrong with the game.

The blanket trick is when you tuck your 360 in bed with you and cuddle for a while getting the unit hot and bothered and presto, works fine.
