i heard a while back about there being a dashboard update to allow this setting on the list of resoloutions...anyone heard anything about it because it seems most people with widescreen monitors above 20" have this as their native res! come on MS do sumfing about it!

anyway another question is this... i currently have my monitor set to 1280 x 1024 but i heard that 1360 x 768 is better for widescreen monitors? i have a 20" widescreen monitor with 1680 x 1050 res btw... i heard that 1280 x 1024 makes the image look a bit squashed? is this true?!!

I run my monitor at 1280 x 720, which is 720p. Thats the 360's native resolution. It's also the resolution that all the games are developed at. If you go any any higher than that then you are upscaling the image it produces. 720p is the best possible resolution to run at if wantto see the games as the developer intended you to.

I just wish they'd add all the resolutions you could possibly want... for instance, I want 1600x1200, as that is the max resolution of this monitor, but it isn't supported and I have to use 1280x1024.

Run it at 1280x720. Since your monitor is 16:10 you will experience stretching but it won't be too noticeable.

Someone help me out here.  I am soo lost.  My LCD's native resolution is 1360 x 768.  I use component cables, therefore the image is slightly stretched in both dimensions.  VGA solves this?  I feel like an idiot... can anybody tell me if I should be using my VGA hookup in the back of my TV?

my HDTV has the same resolution and i don't have any stretching, but very minor jaggies in some games, but using a VGA cable will be better than component.

Have you checked you settings? First make sure the switch on the component cable is set to HDTV, then go into your systems blade in the dashboard. Select display and make sure its set to HDTV and widescreen. Set the resolution to 720p.

Try that.

720p is less than 768P, therefore the remaning 48p is being "stretched" to fill the screen. My TV has a setting called "aspect" and a setting called "1:1 mode". 1:1 mode displays the actual resolution of the output source (the 360) and it's resolution is 1280 x 720. If i choose aspect it will enlarge (stretch) the image to fill the screen while remaing in correct proportion.

Why would it have aliasing? Stretching has nothing to do with aliasing.

The thing about the XBox's VGA capabilities is that it only supports 1 16:10 resolution, which is 1280x768. 1680x1050 would be great for all those people who went out and bought widescreen monitors that were too cheap for 1920x1080, like me. :P
