It depends on the style of shooter. Something like Half-Life needs to be 1st, but the Splinter Cell games MUST be 3rd.
ive always perfered 3rd person, but i wanted to no wat the peoplez think. it would help me out a lot, considering that id like to become a game designer... :)renegadebat3same here. I prefer 3rd person & I plan to have a career in game design :D
I don't really have a prefrence. I enjoy both a lot but if it's a survival game i love first person. Doom 3 is by far one of the scariest games i've played due to the fact things sneak up on you a lot!
Are you talking shooters? If there are 100 things, in order, that go into making a good shooter, this is around #87. The great shooters of ages past were great for a number of reasons that have nothing to do with whether they were first or third person. It's not a distinguishing factor. It's a non-factor to the point that some games switch between the two perspectives, or even allow you to choose your camera. It's only a nitpicker or a dilettante that loves FPS while hating TPS, or vice-versa.
Oh, and if you think "TPS" is its own separate genre, then your ability to analyze games is somewhere around non-existent.
I think it really depends on the game. In games where you are going to be taking cover a lot 3rd Person is usually the way to go. I think games like Rainbow Six Vegas do a good job of switching between FPS and TPS when it is needed.
You know, I am finding that I really like both, but it depends a lot on the type of game more than anything. I still think sidescrollers and overhead-view games are a fresh change of pace, so really I think variety is key in video games. Imagination is what is important, think big and work towards that.
