That's Gamestop's replacement plan. The MS warranty is still 3 years. If you need to send your console into MS for repairs or replacement, it will still be covered for 3 years.

It scared me there for a second. Although if Microsoft did cut off the extra 2 year warranty out of the three, I'm sure they would have made a announcement or something with a good reason.

It is still 3 years for the RRoD as of Monday, when I called in to get my March 2005 box repaired under warranty. I'm pretty sure the 1 year is for the "full" warranty, unless this was quietly changed within the last couple of days (very unlikely..).

I kind of think you may have been dealing with a new/unaware/annoyed phone guy who gave you some bad info. I'm not sure MS can revert back to the old warranty that easily, it seems there would be some legal issues that might spring up. Did you specifically mention the three-year warranty? This news seems like it would have made a bigger spalsh than someone randomly coming across it.

you guys are both wrong...call them and see for yourself. It is now just 1 year, Iv'e called and verified. You are covered for three years only if it was before a certain date like in 2005 or something. Which means when i get my 360 on friday, if it craps out in 2009 ill be out of luck...call and ask for yourself...it IS NO LONGER THREE YEARS

yeah i asked if it went from 3-to-1 but if u go to the site in original post it says anyone that already has one wont be effected so no legal issues there. its just ne1 that wanst to but one. Yeah he mighta been a new guy but id reccomend calling just to make sure. I did and another poster did on this post with the same answer so im pretty sure its real

Nothing has change except that Gamespot is not offering the 3 year warranty. So my solution is dont buy your console from gamestop and buy somewhere else if you want to buy the full 3 year warranty.

Youre an idiot. And if youre dumb enough to believe its been switched to one year, you deserve the anxiety youre having.

do what he said call tech support and ask...

Tech support doesn't know anything, they make up so many stories just to pass the time. It isn't official until MS calls up an announcement on it.

Says some tech support guy? I'd trust the web-site over an underpaid customer service rep. I highly doubt this policy has been changed, because I got my 360 repaired using the three year warranty less than a month ago. It would have to be a very recent change, and they would have to make their customers aware.

Update: I just received my box for warranty repair from Microsoft, and my console is from 2005. I called again to make sure I didn't have to pay anything and the guy I talked to said my RRoD was covered under the updated 3-year warranty.

RIP thread

hi i have just rang microsofts xbox 360 repair hotline to book my xbox 360 in for repair and i have just been told that microsofts xbox 360 3 year warranty only covers you if your xbox has the 3 red lights problem. For any other problems you have to pay to get your xbox fixed.

but my argument was that i have had my xbox sent off 2 microsofts repair centre before and that wasn't for the 3 red lights problem and that was only about a month ago but anyway i was told it would be easier just to go out and buy a new console.
