I didn't buy any gamerpics but I'd be mad if I did - seeing as they will be worthless now.Cwagmire21
Avatars are optional. You can still use your gamerpics if you want. I like the idea. Like someone else mentioned, it gives us something to create on our own if we want. I use the vison camera to change my personal gamerpic constantly. I imagine ill be doing the same thing with my Avatar, always changing it.
i think for those who have bought gamerpics and stuff they shouldreimburseyou for all that stuff or else its just wasted moneyarmyman455
Why does everyone think this? Multiple reports have stated you can still use gamerpics and themes after the update (i.e. with the new Dashboard).
Now, back on topic. I like Avatars. It gives me the ability to actually create something as an ID, rather than a boring image (hey, I'm not paying for a picture). Plus, I can add and edit the Avatar, while still keeping the base figure in-tact, so a Santa hat for Christmas, or something cheesy like that.
If it ends up making MS money then I say why not.
I simply dont have to use this feature if I find it childish when it gets released.

I have a similar opinion, but I know im a sucker for stuff like this once I get it for free. Ill probably end up using my avatar on gamespot, vista, msn etc.
At the moment I see it as a neccessary evil, 360 is goign great but there are plenty of teens on their xbox and PS2 who saved up to buy a current gen system. They might like GeOW2 or MGS4 but the little extras such as Home, avatars or Xbox primetime will be important in their final decision aswell. If we want to keep getting old PS3 exclusives and keep our own then Microsoft needs to keep the sales up, avatars is going to help with that.
pointless. I hate it when companies go for casual!! Do something for hardcore gamers instead!!Iraqi_Gangster
So hardcore is taking someone else's art and pretending it's yours?
The idea of the gamertag picture and skin is pointless, you're just copying and pasting in what you think looks nice and guess what? Thousands upon thousands of people are doing the same exact thing. It's not original it's something set up for the casual.
"Here you go, we know you can't make anything yourself because you're too new to gaming so take this nice picture and some skins and then you can start learning to play games!"
No thank you, I can't wait until originality comes into play
Who really cares Avatars is such a minor thing and the grand scheme of things look at the update in its entirety. First you can party up essentially anytime and you can now use your netflix membership on the 360. Also you can download games to the 360 and have faster loading times. Avatars will neither hurt or help gameplay so who really cares.
They're pretty interesting, but I hate how they are so disproportionate. Make them more realistic (Miis are an example of how not to do avatars), or include completely non-human avatars (Dragons, birds, robots, etc).
I think they should also have outfits you unlock in games (i.e. get Altair's outfit by getting x number of achievements, getting COG armor by beating Gears on different difficulties).
