The U.S. Army is testing the Autonomous Rotorcraft Sniper System (ARSS) — a remote-controlled unmanned Vigilante robot helicopter equipped with a high-velocity sniper rifle.

Its RND Edge semi-automatic gun is mounted on a self-stabilizing turret with built-in zoom camera, and fires 7 to 10 precisely aimed .338-caliber rounds per second.

Back on the ground, a human directs it using a modified Xbox 360 controller, which plugs into alaptopso that the operator can see what the drone sees.

"Having the ability to accurately engage single point man sized targets with anairborneUAV will give the ground based soldier the ability to have a high-point survivable sniper at their disposal when needed," stated the Army solicitation notice when the project was announced in 2005.

The Space Dynamics Laboratory at Utah State University developed the Precision Weapons Platform guided turret and rifle system.

...A little unsettling, but interesting none-the-less.

Doesnt surprise me. Its a great feeling controller. Second only to the PS2's dualshock. The ps3s suck. To light.

Airforce man maybe ?

Yeah. I'm only 13, but my dream has always been to be a combat pilot for the US AirForce. And unmanned aircraft are ruining that dream. I want to fly, not play Ace Combat(Although, that is awesome. One of my favorite series). Although, the sad truth is that robotic combat drones are becoming more capable and numerous, allowing for more improvement to the point that armies have full robotic infantry units and divisions while the real soldiers get the back seat to a bunch of steel and gears. I'll turn into the Will Smith from iRobot.

Thats a great movie. It'll save lives though if we have robot soldiers. Its a long way away before we have fully cappable robot soldiers.

It's so when the turret gets destroyed he only has to press X to bring up the respawn map, then A for his new weapon to spawn... :P

yes, it seems like the army are getting into robotic type of things. i remember reading another article of military using a 360 controller for a robot that can detonate bombs.
