Ok, so I've had my 360 for a little over a year now. I lvoe it. It's awesome. But just like every other 360 owner, I worry alot about getting the RROD. I only ever play it for about 5 hours a day, which I hope is good. I dont have Xbox Live so Im not playing it for a long time like other people. I went to EB Games to check some things out, I saw the Cooling Fan and I asked the guy behind the counter if it really worked. The guy said that it doesn't really work and it consumes more power from the 360 then it supposedly saves, and that it will accually make my 360 more likely to get the RROD. He says its best to just buy a normal fan from Walmart or someplace. I want to know what you guys think. Are there fans i can use that have their own source of power like from batteries, or do teh regular fans actually work? Let me know please. I'd really like some peace of mind. Thanks a bunch.

That guy at Gamestop was right. Those Cooling Fans will overheat your Xbox, thrust me, they overheated mine.

The way I keep my Xbox running cool is by sitting it up next to a window.

No, no Cooling Fan will do what it says it will do. Just get a regular fan.

Xboxs are meant to withstand heat. I think...

I've heard the best thing is just have it stand up and have all your games installed on the hard drive, I've always done this. I've also never had problems aside from this. I'm kinda of the opinion that 2008 onwards 360s don't have issues.

I mod 360s and this is the best way to keep it cool. Also make sure it's located in a good space and that the games are installed to the hard drive. If you're running your games on the disk lay the system down to prevent scratching. The only other method of keep it cool is opening it and leaving it that way or installing custom fans, both will void your warranty. If you have a jasper don't worry about it, they stay very cool.

Don't get one. They're super loud and my XBOx still overheated even though I had one.

I hear laptop cooling pads do the trick for this sort of thing.

but if you install your games, I find it hard to remotely worry. at least elevate it horizontally with a 4-point stand if need be.

It's crap. It's effects are questionable and as others have said, it can overheat your system. I used to work at Best Buy and we'd joke about how many fans we had and how they all sucked. The funny thing is that some of them even have soft metal screws (nickel?) We had one guy come in who's fan had overheated so badly that the screws had melted and FUSED the fan to his console. DO. NOT. BUY.

They are junk dude i don't see why its hard for people see that. they are just a gimmick to bring in extra money for who ever makes them. look at it, it sits on back of a system where it covers up the fans you already have and blows more that isn't doing much... btw if you got your system a year ago you should have falcon if not a jasper.

SIR play your 360 and enjoy your gaming. stop worrying about a rrod when you play because your cutting the fun out of gaming. Do you walk around town and in house soon as you wake up worrying about if you going die or not all day long? ya we all think about it but do we gloom over it, no.

BTW everything breaks in this world there is no perfect and if someone believes in perfect then....... Good Bye Your the Weakest Link

P.S I have my system on a mile crate. I didn't put it on there because of heating issue i did it because i got space issues god sake i got my T.v on a treasure chest lol. So it was on floor/t.v or something around the house. But anyways in the end i think it helps since the milk crate have holes in them the bottom of my 360 gets little more Air then sitting on a table or so where the bottom is closed

No. In fact is probably worse. So ask yourself, is it worth messing up your 360?

They are bad for your xbox plus it voids your warranty. The reason why it heats it up is because it uses the power from your xbox.

I play all day long no fan and anything else. MS is responsible for rrod not me. I know people with pricey cooling fans who got rrod.

I think you'll be better without the Cooling fan TC. The Cooling fans are loud as heck, and they can get a strange noise. The Cooling fans also voids your warranty, which is not good. If I were you TC, just enjoy your Xbox 360 and don't worry about the RROD. Just like the other guy said in this thread, your cutting out the Fun with your gaming system. Just enjoy it and It's better to Avoid the Cooling fans. Have a nice day TC. :) :D :) :D

For me external cooling fans are not worth it. How I keep my Xbox cool is keep a lot of room around it, lay it on its side, and install all my games to the harddrive. This has really helped me!

Oh, and yes, I still have a pre-HDMI xbox that works fine!

If it hasn't died on you now, then you don't need the cooling fan.

I think the problem is you just don't play your 360 24/7. Try turning it off once in awhile :P

You don't need one, plus they only break the Xbox 360's anyway, because they trap heat inside of the Xbox 360 and so no air get's inside. Don't worry, if you keep it well ventialted and dust free, your more unlikely to get the RROD. Trust me.

your best bet if youre worried about heat is instead of putting your money towards a fan put it towards a 120GB hard drive and install all your games to it. Not using the DVD drive = less heat
