There's been a rumored price drop of $50 off the Elite and Pro for a while, and an $80 drop on the Arcade/Core for a while now. September 7th is the alleged date.
Right now we're getting very close to the holidays (allegedly some places are *already* putting up Christmas stuff!), with a lot of big-name titles on all systems coming out very soon. While I wouldn't put money on the exact date of a drop, just remember that price drops are an inevitability, and right now the odds are very good the rumors are true. Note too that the price of the 360 just got cut in Japan, and the price of 360 accessories just got cut in Australia.

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/17246/Rumor-Xbox-360-Arcade-Dropping-to-199-Next-Month/ - reporting a rumor initially brought up by Arstechnica.
I'm hoping MS is going to finally start getting seriously aggressive with the 360's pricing across the board.
I'm looking to get the 60GB Pro sometime soon....maybe within the next month or so. I just have this funny feeling that my 360 is going to clunk out on me and leave me high and dry this holiday season, and that won't be good since it is no longer under warranty.
I would get the Elite since the price is going down to $400 but 120 GB is just too much for me. I don't use the Marketplace to download movies or anything like that so it would just be wasted space. Even though the Black finish is tempting I'll stick with the Pro.

I am in the same boat you are in my friend, but I think I'll get the Elite.
Whenever I switch games now I seem to be getting an error message telling me to put the game in the Xbox 360, and all these different languages appear. Plus, recently it has started to freeze whenever I play Oblivion. I might just get it repaired if it craps out on me, sell it and get the Elite.
I don't even think I'd even come close to filling up a 60GB HDD even if I installed games onto the HDD. I've been moving along on a 20GB all this time and I don't see a need for more space. As for the Elite, the only thing i like about it is the black finish. Then again, I did spice my 360 up a bit visually (check my latest blog post) I think with the recent price drops coming though, now is the perfect time to pick up a 360.I'm looking to get the 60GB Pro sometime soon....maybe within the next month or so. because I haven't heard as much trouble with them having RRoD, infact I haven't heard of any haveing the problem, but I assume some have. I don't know what the rasio is of Elites having RRoD to the regualr systems.Shacks210
God these new 360 owners are starting to piss me off. They act as if they are going to get the RRoD no matter what eventually. That's not the case at all; in fact, it's the opposite. I mean, My 360 has never broke, it may be on it's last legs but it still runs.
And the new 360's have such a better design system, it's not even funny. Just buy it and even if it breaks, call Microsoft; it's not the end of the world

The fact that you say your 360 might be on its last leg shows me you have no room to come to my thread crying about 360 owners or "new" 360 owners act like the 360 gets RRoD no matter what, which I would like to point out that not once in my thread that you quoted did I say that the 360 gets the RRoD no matter what, nor did I say I believe it does. Next time you want to try acting hard on a thread and end up whinning instead, don't do it on mine, then mention how you hardly trust your own system. This is what I dislike about Microsoft fanboys.

Microsoft fanboy eh? Maybe the fact I own a PS3, PSP, DS and Wii along with my 360 brings me out as a glaring fanboy.
My 360 has been running a little over 3 years now. And by last legs, it's a bit loud and freezes everyone once in a while, nothing big. And if it does break, it's covered for free.
I understand you saved up your allowance from the past year from mom and dad for you Xbox and don't want it to break, but don't base your purchase on a fear of it breaking. The new 360 RRoD failure rate is right under 10% I believe, and that's a helluva lot better than the +30% it was 18 months ago.
Don't worry about it. Buy it and have fun.
And no I'm not acting hard on a thread. Spend a week on the 360 Board and look at how many new threads there are about people scared to get a 360 because of the RRoD; there's hundreds. So next time you try to be a smart-alec and talk back to someone who's a bit annoyed at these threads, don't be a dick in your response.

Yeah I saved up my allowance from mommy and daddy, nice try on a pathetic burn, reminds me again why I dislike kids responding to my threads, or talking, breathing and living at all.
As for the fear of RRoD, well Like I stated before that I haven't heard of one Elite getting the RRoD, so it is not so much fear as knowing it is a good possibility of getting RRoD at some point. And of course when something has a high failure rate people are going to be causous about buying it. No one buys anything with a mind set that it is going to fail on them, even after a few years. And if it is so annoying reading all these threads from people talking about RRoD, or fearing about getting a 360 because of RRoD or anything else that annoys you... why read it? I understand my thread here was not centered on RRoD but it was brought up, but if it annoys you use much that you have to cry about me bringing it up, why continue to read the post?
It annoys me when people say the PS3 has no games, so I don't read threads about it, and when I am reading a thread that mentions it, I close it because it annoys me. I guess that is just mature thinking on my part.
Oh and I wont be a "dick" in my responce when people like you don't come to my thread crying about something I brought about that is an actual issue in one way or another in the subject at hand.

I understand that, and I really am not worried. I plan to get a store warrenty so basicly I will have two warrenties.
I think Gamestop stopped offering the extended warranty on the 360. Not sure about elsewhere.

I have the 20GB.
I want the Elite because I'm going to getting alot of games this upcoming year, so there is going to be a need for more space to upload the games onto the HDD, and I'll use all that extra space to put ALL my CD's in there(right now I have like 6 CD's on my 20GB, but I'd love to have more on it)
