They're still happeningactually..... and other problems too . Just make sure it still has a warranty in case something happens.

Don't listen to this guy your safe to buy one, but I don't know about a second hand one who know what he did with it or what could be wrong with it my advice would be to get a brand new one.

You may want to listen. I'm telling you from experience and a lot of my friends on xbox live and I live around. A lot of them have had rrod. Some had to send one back like 3 or more times. New or used make sure you have a warranty. It may not mess up. I have a few friends that haven't had rrod. But overall a lot of 360s have had rrod. But like he said best thing to do would be buy a new one if you don't know how good he took care of his 360.

It doesn't really matter at this point if you have a receipt or not (unless there's a warranty with the store), because MS extended all warrantys to 3 years. I would buy it, unless it was dirt cheap ($150 or less), since the person that sold it to you had gotten 1 year of gaming from a console that could possibly burn out a week after you get it.

Great games, but the hardware is still suspect. My Elite has had limited freezing problems which is a big improvement over the constant disc read and freezes I had on my Premium, but my friend who has a brand new Elite is already experiencing the same issues he had with his Premium before it went out on him. It's nice the warranty covers failures, but they shouldn't exist at the rate they do in the first place.

Got my premiun right on release day, played a lot of hours and many great games on it and never gave me an headeach, on the day the elite was released in europe, sold my premiun and bought a Ps....  YOU WISH, an Xbox 360 elite, and like the 1st one till now, no problems (well only with the transfer cables, they never come...)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               So PS3 fanboys shut up and go play your orange box, halo and don't miss the girl on girl action :P

Yeah I got my 360 on launch and its all good, no problems. All I can say is that if you're lucky like me and the dude above me, you won't have any problems. but I wouldn't buy a used console from ANYONE, no matter the platform, unless it was dirt cheap.

Also depends upon your using the Console, don't over-heat it by playing for 6+ hours or poor ventilation. My console is from the Jp launch and i still haven't got any overheating Rods. Only voltage problems but thats cuz the electricity in my house is a little faulty.

I bought my 360 in April and I got the dreaded RROD yesterday, right before I went to put my brand new edition of Call of Duty 4 that I had not got to play yet.... :( One week before Mass Effect, my luck stinks. I wouldn't buy a used 360 though, but I am considering buying one for a back up system. Oh well, I got my old Xbox to tide me over til my 360 gets back from it's trip to the repair center.
