So I just bought Star Ocean: The Last Hope and I am very dissapointed. I can't read any of the text on my SDTV and am too poor to afford a decent HDTV. I couldn't read any of the menu or dialogue text and couldn't understand the game. I had the same problem with Street Fighter IV but luckily fighting games don't require much reading. If someone could provide a list or knows of a website that tells of all the games with this similar problem, that would save me a lot of money and frustration. I hear Dead Rising has the same problem, guess I won't be looking forward to getting that anymore.....

A lot of the games have hard to read text. I still use an SDTV and games like Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remnant have text that is unreadable at times. Some thing for the PS3. I'm definitely upgrading to an HDTV very soon.

There's not much to read in Dead Rising anyway, but I don't have a problem with it on my SDTV. I'm sitting right in front of it though when I'm gaming. Can't compare it to Star Ocean because I haven't tried that one.

I agree, it's obvious that a lot of new games are designed using a BIG HDTV and they never look at what the game looks like on an average size SDTV. I've noticed this big time on Guitar Hero World Tour. I took my system and the game to a friends house who has a 42" HDTV and it was like night and day. I can see how frustrating it would beif a text based story driven game had this same problem.

Does anyone know if Resident Evil 5 is like that? I will be mighty pissed if I can't play on an SDTV.

Granted id probally be on a sdtv if mine did not break so im not trying to come off as an elitest or nothing like that but you can get a hdtv for like 200-300. It wont be like your friends 42 inch but you can get a 19 inch for that price. Its definetly woth the investment. Next time you wanna get a game save the 60 bucks and upgrade. After a few skipped purchases you'll be good. You dont need a big hdtv to read the text, it just has to be hd

Dead Rising was difficult to read on some SDTVs but fine on others. You probably won't fine a site that lists them all, because it isn't a problem that affects all SDTVs - each one is slightly different and it only needs to put the picture out by a tiny amount to make it readable for one person, and unreadable for another. Your best bet is to decide which games you want to get, then look on the specific forums for each game and look there. There are still a lot of people that play with a SDTV, so if it is a widespread problem it should be easy to spot the threads.

I don't know of any site specifically that talks about this problem, but I do know I had a hard time reading all the text in Forza 2...

You can play RE because they mostly talk, but I will say Ive noticed when you try to pick up and read documents or examine something it can be quite hard to read. I have taken my 360 over to two friends house and played on their sdtvs, and then bringing it back and playing on my (HDTV), it makes a world of difference

If money is in short supply, why not buy a cheap LCD monitor? A 19-24" widescreen would be so much better then your SDTV and you could always use it for a PC or laptop. I use a 19" widescreen for LAN's and I would take that over any size SDTV.

In some games, the text will be very hard to read, because of the big resolution games are meant to be played. But I don't think it will be that bad for most of the games

Bummer, I know that my friend had trouble playing Banjo Kazzoie Nuts and Bolts, because he couldn't read the text that told him how to customize vehicles. I have a Wide Screen TV, and I'm pretty sure it's not in HD yet, but I can read the text in my games because the text is meant to be seen on a Wide Screen TV, not a tube TV or a CTR monitor.

I play my 360 on my monitor since I don't have a HDTV, and it makes a huge difference. Star Ocean is almost unplayable on my tv because of the tiny text, just like Dead Rising.

yeah that would be a good idea. All I have is a macbook Pro though and I've looked into it and I'm pretty sure you can't use the screen as a plugin for consoles. Oh well. I'm just going to save money and get a small HD like LooseChangePor said.

no, it is easy because a lot of it is talking.

one reason why i got a HDTV was because of the reading. when i get gta 4 it started to get me mad about how the text messages were hard to read. now that i got a HDTV it looks a lot better.
