Im watching my parents house for a week and I brought my elite and was excited to hook it up and see it on their 47in sony bravia 1080p lcd tv via hdmi.

I hook it up turn on the box and the graphics and text are fuzzy and not soo smoooth and the colors are dimmer and duller. when I have it hooked up to my 32 westinghouse 720p lcdtv and it looks awesome and amazing.

What is goin on here? Their tv is pretty new I changed all the xbox settings to match the tv but that did nothin any sugestions on how to fix this.

I play on a Bravia and the picture is perfect. Maybe your parents changed the picture settings. Set the preset to "Vivid" and change the settings to default. Should be good then, if not then maybe their TV is messed up

Is the TV recognizing the HDMI cable in bringing the right resolution? Every now and then when I boot up my xbox with my hdmi cable to my HDTV, it somtimes boots up in 480p with no sound (leftover from HDMI NXE bug I guess) But I just unplug the HDMI cable and put it back and in its all good again.

And the people in best buy were right. My friend bought a 40" plasma and was boasting about it so much. He then played Halo 3 on it all weekend, and burnt the HUD into his screen :D If you put a constant image on a plasma it has a tendency to burn in the image, and a lot of games have parts of the screen, like the HUD stay in the same place all the time. With LCD you won't suffer from that problem.

Try using a Component cable and try setting the resolution to 1080p using that.

Sony probably does something to their TVs that dulls the quality of XBox 360-playing, to further the support of their PS3 lol. Nah really who knows, I have a Samsung and my 360 is stunning on it. HDMI and digital audio, whoo-hooo!

No NO No, do not listen to this guy, do not play on vivid settings on a bravia, way too oversaturated and bright and shows up jaggies, actually vivid is prolly the worst setting to play 360 on, stick with standard or cinema display settings, and tweak the colours/brightness etc, much better pic quality.

Are you using the same HDMI cable as on your 32 inch?-if not, could be that,i mean,if your elite looks great on your 32 inch, then it should be the same on your parents 47 inch.I got my Elite hooked up to my Sony Bravia 32 inch lcd and it only runs in a max of 1080i and yet the picture and sound is amazing.

crazywayne287
lol, I know, I agree with you LCD's always look gritty/fuzzy, especially through HDMI...it can look dark and sometime not so pretty as you would expect. So the best picture quality does come from a Plasma which is what I use and it's gorgeously glossy and smooth. And people touting LCD's due to there low ms count are just being silly. Most Plasma's nowadays don't ghost and have low 4-5 ms counts, and don't suffer from burn-in. I should know I've been playing on a 42" Samsung Plasma.

lol 'the best picture quality comes from a Plasma' thats quite a broad and incorrect statement, LCDs are better in light room because the screen is matte and doesnt reflect light, plasmas are better in a dark room because they have a better contrast ratio and are essentially 'brighter' BTW anyone who has more knowledge on the subject feel free to add anything or correct anything (but im pretty sure im right with the general idea)

Exactly, most new plasma's have a sort of "image shift" where the image moves ever so slightly every like 30min or so. its not even noticible on my plasma but I know I have it. The only real draw back to Plasmas nowadays is power consumption.

Some may say that but if you've ever played on a Plasma then you'd understand that Plasma's picture quality is much much...LCD's have quick response times and do indeed work well under bright lit rooms, but everyone knows Plasma's are better picture wise.

My samsung LCD kills anything I've seen, I have friends with plasmas and LCD both parents, grandparents in-lawish so I had alot to look at. So on Plasmas still images DO cause damage its just takes longer (due to the shifting pixels) and they have created ways to repair it, kind of but it still seriously reduces liftime of the tubes or panel (cant remember which) the damages comes from both, the fix as well. Basicly they burn the entire screen with nothing on the screen to erase the ghost similar to the "gray DVD they sold to fix Plasma burns. LCDs problem was response time and blurring and the 120 hz sets have about ended that issue completly I had an old old LCD and yes for gaming it sucked almost ruled out LCD completly because of my old one. Yes I researched alot before buying mine and was glad I did because otherwise I wouldnt have this set. Another thing that hurt plasmas is I am using my 46 inch as a computer monitor as well. what I'm typing on right now. LCD defiantly have the edge in this area oh and I think they are going to start phasing out Plasmas in the near future as well dont quote me on that though.

Yeah you are actually correct that Plasmas are going to be phased out, but that does not mean that they lack the picture quality to keep up with a LCD. Plasma's failure currently in my mind is due to allot of myths that see people here are still invoking. MOST Plasma's just don't burn in anymore the way people are describing here unless it's a cheap off brand one. The Samsung 42" we have in the living room does not burn in and I've played for hours and hours on it, left my 360 idle on it hundreds of time with 0 burn in. Now I do own a 32" Vizio Plasma in my room which does suffer from occasional burn in, but that's to be expected from a cheap off brand like Vizio....and I pretty much could over look that. SO I kinda understand peoples gripes with Plasmas but it's not lacking at all if compared to LCD's.

Do plasmas still have ghosting issues though? My old roommate had one just a year ago, and I remember turning in FPS's, and the whole screen would "drag." very annoying, and always gave me a headache.

Plasmas don't have the burn in problems like they used to. I bought a 50" Pioneer Kuro last year and game on it all the time. I upgraded from a LCD rear projection. The plasma's picture is like a million times better than that old TV.

Make sure your xbox is going at 720p or higher. Also, you probably need to tweak the settings. I reset my TV one time and all my games just looked horrible. It took me about 10 minutes of fiddling around with stuff. Everything was crazy jaggy (too much "Sharpness" enhancement) and washed out looking. After tweaking stuff I got it back to looking amazing.
