360 HD-DVD Addon should be $149, the $20 price cut doesn't cut it.....

Seriously, you can get a PS3 with a 60 gig hd and Blueray for $499 with WiFi. Ms needs to drop that HD-DVD addon to atleast $149 or less. This is not a system wars thing, I am a 360 owner, dont own a PS3, but I just think it's unfair for MS to charge so much for it. The Toshiba player can be found for $220 on the net and it plays scratched discs better and upconverts better, it also doesn't require you to power on your 360.

The ps3 for 500 dollars is limited time only. Once they sell all the 60 gig version it will be 600 again. Its a bait and switch. Who uses there game console to watch movies anyway?

Bah I just down load HD movies through Marketplace. HD-DVD or Blu-Ray is a waste.

wrong, once the 60gb is out of stock, they will bring the price down from $600. Yes there is no link or proof i can provide you, but sony knows that would now make any marketing sense whatsoever. you can't go from 500 to 600. and without the emotion engine and the parts and manufacturing getting cheaper, it'd be easy for them to drop the price by then. I will say that they might try to leave it at 600 for a little while to see if it still sales, but i think they will have to drop the price.

anyway im just responding to your comment, and while it is debatable (i know i could be wrong to) thats not what the TC made this topic for, which is why its not on the PS3 board.

I totally agree though, the hd-dvd add on should not be soo much. but either should their 20gb hdd. i think microsoft selling everything seperately caused the prices to go up, instead of just offering them in packages (as in having them in the 360 in the first place). but if people buy them MS will keep selling them at the same price

Yeah, the add-on was a sweet deal at $199 with a remote and free movie. But that was when it became the first 1080p HD-DVD player on the market using vga, and loaded up insanely faster than the stand-alone units, which were $500 and up. Now with the players being down to $299 and lower with sales, it's not that inticing anymore. The drop to $179 with 5 free movies helped some, but it would be really nice to be $150. Though, it would be nice if the 20gb HDD was $50, it would be nice if they had a 80gig HDD for $100, and the 120gb drive for $120. But what can you do. Atleast when the players continue to drop, MS is going to have to drop the price of their add-on to compete, unlike how they can do whatever they want with HDDs.

Actually it has been rumored from internally @ Sony that once the 60 gigs sell out the new 80 gigs will drop to $500. Still a shaddy deal for those that purchase it for $600. As far as people who watch movies on their game consoles? Just about everyone who bought PS2initially. I bought my PS3 for Blu Rays. The only game I own is Tekken DR.I play my 360 much more.
