Well Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey weren't really anything new. Really, there isn't anything in Blue Dragon that isn't already been done in SNES rpgs. And the only thing keeping Lost Odyssey from being as much a derivative as Blue Dragon is the ring system and the immortals.
They aren't bad games(which is reflected by their scores), but they certainly didn't try to stray much from the beaten path.
I haven't played The Last Remnant but I didn't really like Infinite Undiscovery. It fealt unfinished. Very unpolished. Rushed.
LO's story was great but i got tired of the gameplay. It's not the game's fault, i've just grown tired of turn-based rpg's.
And i really think that so far, WRPG's have come out consistantly on top of JRPG's for the 360.
Can't wait for FFXIII though.
On X-BOX, there are not much J-RPGS, I still love them for the story and art design but just a little bit tired of the GAMEPLAY. Recently I look at Fable II, it's big different from the J-RPGS. I am looking forward to the star ocean 4 and FFXIII, which will mark the renaissance of J-RPG on current generation console.
I have only played LO out of all the JRPGs on 360. My not having played others has nothing to do with reviews though. LO took me 4 months to beat. I got to the 4th disc and just put the game down and didn't touch it for almost 3 months. I just got so sick of the random battles. Turn based gameplay doesn't bother me, but random battles do. I mean, when you are geting to your 50th hour of play and you can't run from A to B without getting in a random battle it gets old. This makes me think that all games like this need an option or an item to turn off random battles!
Anyway, I will play more JRPGs soon. I am really looking forward to Star Ocean.
Also, I think a lot of these sites are overly critical of games that just happen to fall into this catagory.
