After doing a lot of research and checking out a lot of sets in store I decided on an lcd based on these factors:

LCD's are better in bright environments and newer models have contrast ratios which approach that of plasmas.

LCD's now have very low refresh rates so ghosting has been virtually eliminated (mine is 5ms)

Those 2 things (contrast ratios and refresh rates) used to make Plasma superior for gaming, but newer lcd's have made them non issues.

The major reason I decided against plasma was they all still suffer from burn in. It generally isn't permanent but I don't want to have to worry about how long I've been playing a game because of burn in.

If you're looking for a money factor as well, a Plasma TV lasts about 5 years give or take. Then you'll have to buy a new one. An LCD just has to change a bulb I believe.

I've had good experiences with flat-tube technology as well.  samsung has some good models out there that produce a very nice HD picture.  the price point on flat-tubes is also well below that of plasmas or lcd's if you're on a budget.

Yeah Plasma's usually last only a few years... While an LCD bulb can last a lot longer itself... A LOT longer then 5 years.. then you just replace the bulb...

I have an LCD HDTV and it serves me well..

Plasma's are usually more expensive overall and don't last aslong... So I'm more of an LCD guy.

I'd say get a DLP. Pretty good TV picture + lower price for the size and you don't have to buy a new one when the lightbulb goes out.

Yeah, that's about right! They only thing to add would be that LCDs tend to have a much sharper picture...plasmas tend to have a soft image that blurs games a little bit...Tube based TVs have the same kind of soft image effect....

I've had a 50' Plasma for over a year now. It has 2 component one Vga and One Dvi port. I've had no issues with burnt images or anything like it. It does 1080p through DVI (that's where I have my PS3) and 1080i thorugh the other connections. Replacing the LCD bulb is cheaper, but there's a way to change the plasma (it's a bit more expensive but does the job). IMO if you're going for the smaller sizes (20-42) LCD is the way to go. But for bigger tvs i'm happy with my Plasma
