Alrighty so heres the deal... I got the RROD and someone gave me a link to a youtube video that shows the towel trick(where you wrap the xbox in a couple towels to let it overheat). So I desperately tried it and it actually worked, but about 6 days later I got the RROD again... So once again I went with the towel approach and I got it to start working again, however I can only play a game(and it doesn't matter what game. Ive tried all my games) for about 30 minutes before it freezes but the weird thing is I dont get any error messages or any red rings. I turned it off and turned it back on and it all seemed to work, but now after only about 10 minutes it freezes again and if i turn it off and try again I can only play for 5 minutes before it freezes.

No red rings, no error messages, it just freezes and dotted vertical lines appear. What gives?

hey man

never do the towel trick ever it frys every single other electrial component in the 360. when the problem is normally the x clamps pulling on the motherboard and the little metal things detach.

so is your warrinty up and do you know how to pull apart your 360.

Ehhh I have no idea. Should I just tell them I'm getting the Red Rings? Because then I would get a new xbox for free for sure, right?

I got the RROD as well... The towel trick is not a good idea, but it doesn't hurt you too bad. It depends. If you bought it off a store, what to do is call 1-800-4MY-XBOX and got to the "Repairs" catergory. Warning, they may have a huge Indian accent and hard to understand. If you got it off eBay, like me, unless the guy offered an exchange, you're pretty much screwed., unless you're willing to pay 90 bucks to Microsoft. BUT, on the plus side, they give you a 1-month XBL Gold Sub. and a 1-year warranty, so it's not totally not worth your while.

......

That's like stabbing yourself to see if it hurts. Then trying it again to make sure you were right.

don't worry the warranty for RROD is up to 3 years now, you only have to turn it on until you get the RROD and call support. It won't cost you a penny, you only have to worry for the month you'll spend without your Xbox

if you 360 is fried and it is out of warrienty and you dont mind pulling it apart

one way to fix it is to take it apart get the motherboard out cover all the components exept for the cpu and use a heat gun on it in circler motions this will re connect the the metal things.

and i would search the net beause there are so many easy way to fix your 360.

yeah

To sound repetetive its really pointless to try the towel "trick", it only causes more damage. Hopefully you didn't void your warranty buy doing it. So if you haven't already give Microsoft a call and register your Xbox online so you can take advantage of the extended [3 year] warranty.

You'll have to suffer about a 2 - 3 week wait for all the mailing issues, but its worth it because you usuially get a new xbox because it would take to long for an actual repair. Just don't send your Harddrive in...hopefully that wasn't damaged with the "towel trick".
