I have an Elite that I purchased new back in October. Last night my wife and I were watching a DVD on it when the resolution suddenly dropped dramatically. I exited to the dashboard the resolution had dropped on that screen also. Now when I turn the system on, the middle green light comes on, but there is no video or audio output. No red rings appear at all when the system comes on. I originally had the system hooked up with an HDMI cable. After the problem, I connected to two different TVs. I tried connecting it with the HDMI cable, HDTV cable, and component cable and I got the same result with each.
Well first off is it in warranty? if it is go ahead an send it in. Now have you tried AV cables you know Yellow white red? I find those the easiest way to tell what it is White is i think Left audio Red right yellow video. Now i dont have a 360 just yet but is there a way to change that resolution settings? If none of those are working find a guide online to send it in to Microsoft since it will probably be a 50$ repair. If you get RROD go to the guide and diagnose it and see whatcha gotta do gamespot has an amazing RROD guide and also that means your console must still be in warranty.
Next time, I would suggest buy a separate dvd player or blu-ray player. I really dont recommend using game consoles as a movie player. But that's just me. Especially when the Xbox 360 has issues of its own already. I either use my dvd player or computer to play movies. My 360 are purely for games. The 360 can be such a sensitive game console.
