So, on impulse I had my parents pick me up the 4GB 360 with MW2 and Mass Effect 2 for $199 today as part of Black Friday. I recognize that 4 GB is very little space (heck my Touch has 8 times that, and I'm concerned that I may not be able to play some games or portions of them. Is this a legitimate concern? However, I don't want a 360 enough to drop $300 on one without games (as awesome as the 360 may be). Are there an external solutions that work very well? I see things about flash drives but only a max of 16 GB. Could DLC (e.g. map packs, demos, Arcade games, etc) be put on a flash drive and played well without issues? Any other solutions? I'd think that a 16 GB drive would be sufficient for me if it works with DLC, unless map packs and add-ons are consistently several GB or more. Also, what type of storage space and ventilation are required? I would be putting it in an enclosed TV stand. The space may be around 6-8 inches high by 18-20 inches wide by 15 or so inches deep. There's a panel in the back covering the stand. The doors would be open in the front when being used. My Wii seems to function well in there but I assume it needs less ventilation for obvious reasons. Here's my TV stand. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Willow-Mountain-TV-Stand-with-Mount/13269111?adid=1500000000000012981640 Thanks for the help.

4 GB is plenty, if your like me and stick to the games everyones playin' like PERFECT DARK ZERO then you don't need extra space. I just get lost in that game for hours, playing bot matches by myself. Get my kicks out of it, just perched up on the second floor....looking down at "default bot 1" thinking to myself "if i pull the trigger now, he's falling to the floor like a BIG STUPID HEAD".

Anyway, Stick with your 4GB, i do fine with mine and see no reason to get an upgrade. My gamertag is PDZEROPERFECT10.

4GB will be enough for saves and a small amount of DLC. I would definitely consider a 16GB flash drive - it will allow you to install your games (MUCH quieter and less chance of a disc scratching when it isn't even spinning) :) Plus it's plenty for DLC, XBLA games, and so on. You can use up to two USB Drives.

With the new Xbox's, the only vent fan is on the top - so as long as you have some airflow / open space around the Xbox it should be fine :) I'd say at least a foot on either side, but that is my opinion

Edit: I'm sorry, I noticed you said there is only about 6 inches of heigh. The xbox is.. 3? And the top vent puts out VERY warm air - I wouldn't be surprised if it started to warp / melt the shelf above it :( That's if it has the normal plastic / glued on wood vinyl type stuff.

Thanks for the replies. The space in my stand would be maybe 10" high (I'm not at home now). My Wii stands up and still has at least 3 inches above that. I could adjust he shelves to make more. But it is an enclosed space on 5 of the 6 sides around it (just the front open). Also can we definitely confirm that DLC will run directly off of a flash drive? I've read conflicting reports. Any flash drive work?

I ran the halo reach beta off the flash drive but as for others I am not sure. Arcade games yes. Any flash drive - no but I have tried three different cheaper ones and it worked fine. It tests the speed and told me mine might be slow but it works fine.

They already do sell them at Walmart. I don't remember the price but I do remember it totals more than getting the bundles.

If you know anything about computers you can put on old 360 hard drive in the new 360 Slims.

OR if you really good with computers you can buy a 20,60,120, or 250GB laptop hard drive and format it to xbox 360 format and use it.

I am not sure of the legality of the latter suggestion though.

Thanks for all of the assistance. It looks like there are options out there if I need them as far as HDD storage issues. I can probably get by on a 16 GB flash drive and upgrade to some type of physical HDD if necessary in the future. Is there a list of recommended flash drives somewhere?

Also, I'm home now and have measured the space in my TV stand. It's 17" deep by 19" wide by 9.5" high. The sides are enclosed. The front has wood/glass doors that I'll open when playing it. In the back there is a panel with two large oblong holes. About 20% of the back is open, but it's against the wall. Will this allow adequate ventilation? If not, what does MS expect? I'd think that this is how most TV stands are. What are the dimensions of the slim? I read online it's about 10.5x3x10.5 inches. Though, this seems small.

I would say as long as it has about 3 inches all around it should be fine. Worst case it will shut down since there is a safety for overheating. You would know for sure then!
