I just bought a 4GB 360 slim yesterday and plan on buying a larger hard drive later. I started playing Alan Wake and it was quite loud. It was like a constant droning noise that I kind of got used to, but I can't remember how loud the old 360 model was because I got rid of it a long time ago. Is this normal? It doesn't overheat and runs properly it just makes that annoying noise. I thought these were supposed to be quieter.

Because I can't save money to save my life and I had enough at the time to buy the 4gb slim with the intent to buy a bigger hd later.

Some games are louder than others. Install the game to your hard drive and problem solved.... Oh wait... you got the 4 gig :P

Mine sounds like electricity crackling when placed vertical. Placing it horizontal solved everything. Opens up the bottom vent as well.

With all these problems, is the slim all that much better than the original 360?

The chipset is drastically different actually. They combined the GPU and the CPU into one die in the Slim while making it smaller.

Yeah regardless my response was about the jasper chipset that they put in the systems from 2008 on i could care less about GPU and CPU they all play the same games at the same speed. If i wanted built in wifi i would have bought the network adapter for the system at launch or purchased a PS3 which have had that built in since launch as well. Save your money buy an elite with 2 games bundled.

Nevermind. I guess the game that i was palying was the problem. It was a rental with a sticker on it that was making the disc unbalanced in the tray. All other games i've tried today run without a sound. Even without installing the game.
