With the 360 slim having been out on the market for over a year now, does anybody know how reliable they are? What kind of failure rates does the slim have? And for those of you who own slim 360s, what has been your experience with them in terms of reliability and functioning?

I'm trying to get some info on the slim before buying one, as I was burned big time several years ago by my 360 Elite that first decided not to play my games anymore, then once I fixed that, the thing went RRoD days after the warranty expired. Just looking to see if MS has improved it enough to justify dropping $200 bucks on one.

well, i had a launch day AU xbox, RROD on day one after about an hour (probably the first ever swap for Perth, WA) and then 9 months laqter i got the DVD drive fixed because it wouldnt eject 100% of the time (more like 30% eject success). kept using it until christmas 2010 when i replaced it with an "S" model with 250gb hdd. i am yet to have any issues with the s model :D

very happy.

I got the Gears 3 Limited Edition and it's been good so far. It has locked up on me a few times but I think it's been the games fault and not the xbox.

I had mine since they first came out. Never had a problem. I use it a lot too. Some gaming sessions will go on up to 14 hours.

I guess its a mixed set. I had mine for about a year before the problems began. It started to give me 2 Red rings then all of a sudden it destroyed a disc while I was playing. after that it continued to cause rubbing on the outer edge of all my discs. Then the laser burned out and wouldn't read anything. After that I got an older refurbished model and besides the USB ports there isn't much of a difference even in noise.

The new XBox doesn't have red LEDs built into the console. http://www.gamespot.com/news/xbox-360-slim-cant-red-ring-by-design-6266498

EDIT: I guess you must've been talking about the older model then.

Believe me I purchased the console had it break and took it apart yea its not an led but that round pad can turn red to indicate problems, I know I didn't have an older console because the shell, harddrive even open and close button and xbox buttons are different *edit* just read your article parhaps its because I had the 4gig not the 250 believe me I had it happen to me within months of us writing this

Bought mine the very day they became available back in 2010. It's worked like a champ since then. Not a single problem.

HAd mine for about 2 months now. Few freezes here and there. No real major problems. Lets just say i'll never go back to a Phat and would recommend you buy a slim. I would highly suggest getting the 250 GB model and try to get it bundled with a game or at least a game where you have to redeem a code to get it. Definitely worth the money.

Hilarious seeing people boasting how they have had no problems with their slim after only a year. Short term memory. The old models did not get the RROD typically until after a year at least.

I had mine for about 4 months now, and it works perfectly, I especially enjoy the included wi-fi after having to deal with crappy 3rd party router before. After 5 and half years of a 20 gig Hard Drive, it's sooo nice to have over 200 gigs free :)

I have had mine for UNDER A YEAR.......and i have expirienced my first problem with it....

Strangely, it is not the console itself, but the Power Supply Brick. this thing started making grinding noises like a buzz saw for like a month. now my slim wont stay on for more than 30 min. until shutting down automatically.

Luckily, still under warranty, and will be replaced by microsoft.... but still.... annoying as hell none the less.

NOTE: I am currently on my 5th XBOX.... I think their hardware is garbage for the most part, because I have had HDD failures, to power supply failures, to just RROD......So i have been through it all...... On a side note though...I LOVE MY FRUXXIN XBOX... make no mistake. But it has costed me THOUSANDS in just hardware alone. The new slims run Quieter, and cooler, so they are prone to less problems.... and I think overall they are perfecting the design for the most part...but its the END of the console's life cycle now. getting a slim is worth it though.... its sexy.

I own a 4gig slim, and the only complaint is the lack of memory, which can be easily avoided by buying a 250 gig. The slims overheat sometimes from overuse, but only if you use the darn thing 4 hours straight playing from the disc drive. never happened to me. you wont get RRoD, you get built in wifi, and the system is overall quieter. i think it would be smart to get the slim.

well that sucks...but overall their better than the older models. wouldnt you agree? Oh and if its the power brick issue, why dont you just go on ebay and find a new power brick....?

OH WOW!!!!! 4 whole months????? I guess that really proves . . . . . . . . nothing.

Really, some your standards are amazingly low. You feel like you get your money's worth after only 4 months. Really?

Not a lot of issues regarding problems with the Slim model so far. If they were a lot we would have heard massive rants in forums and websites.

Hilarious seeing people boasting how they have had no problems with their slim after only a year. Short term memory. The old models did not get the RROD typically until after a year at least.

Qixote

Hilarious to call "boasting" to people gving requested feedback to someone who asked a question.

Now that is very useful... coming to the forum of the machine you don't own to start a flame.

In need of atention, are we?
