I've always thought that these systems breaking threads and complaints were the words of a very vocal majority.  My 360 has worked fine for well over a year.

I can understand that people who's 360's go down in flames get angry and post it on message boards like this right away to vent a little, even to spread a little negative publicity on MS...

The thing is, I haven't really heard much about PS3's breaking down or anything.  There doesn't seem to be much about it.  If my theory of vocal, pissed off consumers is correct, there should be a lot of people in forums mad as HELL about their $600 machine breaking down.

Just wondering if anyone has heard much about PS3's breaking down, I haven't.  I don't own a PS3 either in case anyone wants to know.  Because if there isn't much about PS3's reliabiltiy, then obviously the xbox 360 probably DOES have an unusually high rate of failure.

Just a random thought, which is what these forums are for right?

When the PS3's sales start to increase, than we shall know if they're product has any bugs. I'd love to get one, but one next gen system is enough for me.

Well I have a PS3 and the air that comes out of it is way hotter than the 360's, but the console remains cool... I guess that's the trick.

My PS3 has locked up on me about 2 or 3 times since I got it. Once when I first got it, then once trying to get out of Double Agents multiplayer, then once on the Godfather leader boards.

They all involve online.

I've also heard of a couple PS3s going out at work (I work at GameStop). However, even though sales of the PS3 aren't as high as the 360 now, they match up with the 360 launch batch in units sold (up till March at least) so if the system were having as many problems as the 360 was, we would have heard about it like we did with 360's last year.

As a side note, I got my brand new 360 from Microsoft in the mail today (from the Microsoft Retail ExpertZone. A website for retail employees to get discounted microsoft goods while 'learning' about them at the same time). Guess what. E-68.

The Xbox 360 has the shame of being the first game console in my life to come broken in the box. And just to give you a idea of how amazing that is, here is a list of every system I've owned in my life to date.

PS1, PS2 (original), PS3, PSP, Wii, Gamecube, DS (original), GBA SP (I've had two, but not because one stoped working. Oh, and they are originals, not the brighter screen ones), Game Boy Micro, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy, Genesis, Game Gear, Sega Master System, NES, SNES, N64, Xbox, and XB360.

Hopefully, Microsoft will just have to replace the HDD. (Plus, I ordered the thing a month ago, but the manufactor date on the system says August of 2006. Why not send me a new one). I guess I'll have to buy a memory card for now to play my games and not have to restart.

Gears looks awsome, BTW. But I got to get use to the controls.

timmy84

Thats funny because I have owned everyone of those systems to, and the only console that has EVER busted on me is the 360. My PS3 has never had any problems yet. My Wii is semi glitchy sometimes but no crashes. As the console just doesnt get as hot, and maybe thats the 360s problem is insuffcient ways to expel the heat?

I think its safe to say the 360 fails every now and then:P Im sure the PS3 does to but no were near the 360. But as always I gotta say that sometimes there are a bit to many broken 360 threads at times. Also though I dont believe all of them are bull. Some are im sure but not all.

I think so too, it's mainly due to there not being that many sold, but I'm sure they are having issues as well, all systems at launch do.

The only other system I had crap out on my was my first PSX, but that was only because I didn't give it good ventalation (I had it on the rug) and it essentially burnt out.

We started hearing things about broken 360's pretty early after launch (not much longer than a month). the ps3 has been out for about 6 months now and not really a peep, much less the riots insued from the "three red lights" thing or whatever.

I do think that a lot of it has to do with people and the way they use the damn thing. i've heard so many stories of people getting 3, 4 or more 360's that have broken. this has to be because of a combination of a)overuse! and b) improper placement of the machine and/or powerbrick.

Improper placement I agree with....overuse is not an option. Designers should know that gamers usually put a ton of hours on these things a week. I game 4-10 hour a day, and have with every system I have ever owned since the NES days, and none broke, except the 360 so for me, if thats the problem then I guess I should get rid of my 360, as apparently thats the problem then? If over use is a problem.....just WOW. Shouldnt be such a thing as over use.

24 hours straight I could see, but they should be durable enough to play for at least a few hours a day or even 5 hours a day. If thats over use that is sad.

IT is true that 360s do died much more than PS3s. I haven't seen any news about someone's PS3 dying for months.

IF a lot of them were, you would see the news on the internet.

Never had a problem with my 360. As far as I know, the breaking down was mostly (mostly) a problem with the early consoles. Mine was bought spring 2006 and hasn't let me down once.

A random though maybe, but one that should've been expressed in System Wars. You have no idea what kind of a flame war the question "Do PS3s break down as much as X360s" will ignite...

I've seen one video of a PS3 that wouldn't take a disc, and one video of a PS3 that wouldn't give the disc back and would make these horrible noises.  other than that, I have not heard anything about PS3s breaking down....and I spend about 95% of my time on this forum in the PS3 forum.  There are plenty of complaints in that forum, but one complaint that never comes up is the PS3 breaking down.

that is one of the major problems.  there is virtually no heat dissapation(sp?) for the GPU.  the other problem is the design of how the CPU is held to the motherboard.

I think he meant "accept it" as accept that the 360 breaks down more than the PS3 and stop trying to makeup stories of PS3's breaking down.  He didn't mean to just accept that your 360 breaks down and do nothing about it.
