Hi I have a 4:3 ratio LCD monitor with a 1024 x 768 resolution. I was gonna get the xbox VGA cable to play 720p high def on my monitor, but then I read on Wiki that 720p is 1280 x 720 resolution which is a bit different. Can anyone tell me whether the VGA cable will still give me a high def imiage on my monitor or will it get downgraded to 480p? Cheers.

only if your monitor supports that resolution, which im guessing it doesnt since its not a widescreen monitor and 720p is a widescreen resolution

you will still get a lot better definition out of your monitor than you would out of a standard def tv.

I think most games will get downscaled. Some games will probably be able to run natively in 1024 x 768. I know that some games like Far Cry and Guitar Hero II can run natively in 1280 x 1024.

You still get a hi def image, i got my 360 hook up with a vga cable. once you connect it you have to go to the display options on your 360 dashboard and it will hive like 10 options with different resolutions and you pick the one that best fits your monitor. The vga cable can hold alot more resolutions than the hi def componets. I had to buy vga cables for my 360 because i was running out of connections with my hdtv, i have the ps3 and cable box hook up to my hd components, and my 360 hook up with the vga since i dont have an hdmi connection on my hdtv. So the answer is yes, buy it becasue the image wont downgrade, it actually supports like 10 resolutions.

That translates roughly to 13 inches, so I'm guessing you have a 15 inch screen?

i dont see how a LCD can be a max of 1024x768

Right click your desktop > go to properties > go to settings tab > on the bottom left, move the slider all the way to the right, what does it say under it?

Mine says 1440 by 900 pixels, tell me yours.

Fifteen inches sounds about right. 1024x768 is my monitors native resolution, it don't go no higher then that.

When you're using the VGA cable the settings are set in screen resolutions, as opposed to all the 720p 1080i mumbo jumbo I know nothing about. I can't remember what they all are, but I'm pretty sure yours is above the standard definition at the bottom. Just so you know, it seems most games are played in widescreen if it's above sd. So you'll have those little black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

A monitor, even on the lowest definition, still looks A LOT better than an SD TV.
