Ok, so just yesterday I created a second Gamertag. Half the games I originally downloaded with my first gamertag now only show up as demos. The other half work just fine, In an unrelated event, I'm now unable to sign on to Xbox Live with either account. It says something about my 360 not getting an IP from my router even though every other device (computers, Wii, PS2) all have no problems. Anyone experience any of the oddities??

Dude I just got that IP thing today, I'm having trouble right now. It worked fine yesterday. Is XBL down or what?

Whew....Glad to know I'm not the only one. I was playing Halo 2 last night. It must be down. That's the only real reasonable explanation.

But IP Address has nothing to do with XBL so maybe it's just a coinsidence?

I had this problem when I first got Live. The way I fixed it is that I manually put in the same IP as the computer uses. It has the same IP,DNS, and MAC address as my computer. Now it works perfectly, try that.

LMAO!!!!.. you know you cant set the MAC address right...and that if you have the same IP on 2 devices on the same network it will conflict with each other..

yes that happened to me once and it was when I was playing the lost planet extreme condition demo and for some reason I couldn't get though to x box live and it said something that meant that I couldn't get through and I stopped because I wasn't able to play the demo, and there was something else that happened for some reason when I was playing viva pinata and when I planted a lot of some type of flower me and my brother's x box 360 froze and we had to call the micro soft customer service and they got it fixed some story huh?.

yea, enter in the correct DNS IP. if it still fails, make sure you have your GATEWAY IP entered correctly. depending on ur set up, this is usually the IP address of your modem/router.

My Gateway IP, Primary DNS Server and Secondary DNS Server all have the same address, they're all entered correctly

who is your ISP? look it up the actual settings on the net. enter in the IP for the DNS. so your gateway will be 192.168.1.x and your dns may end up something like 203.12.160.35. as an example. if your DNS still fails, then your gateway is wrong. if your gateway is definately correct then your internet is either not working or you messed up in your networking.

I'd try resetting the router and modem if the wife wasn't listening to music online. :( I'll try later. I still don't understand why my XBLA games won't play.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908885 told me my what all my addresses are and stuff, plus another page at xbox.com told me:

1. Start -> Run... -> type: cmd

2. type: ipconfig/all

tells you everything

my service provider is Shaw btw, and my dns is nowhere near 203.12.160.35 if that was supposed to be somewhat accurate, my dns is the exact same as my ip + gateway, except ip ends in 2 instead of 1

When I manually enter dns, it'll do this:

1. network adapter... wired

2. ip address... confirmed

3. dns.......... failed

when I do it automatically:

1. network adapter... wired

2. ip adress.....................confirmed+dns failed at same time

no, that was an example. this page. http://support.shaw.ca/troubleshooting/dnsservers.htm Has all the DNS servers for that ISP, depending on where you are from. pick the appropriate and enter. and well, you didnt need the /all. that displays for all adapters, ipconfig in your case would have been suffice.

Well I was looking through advanced network settings on my 360, and there was an alternate MAC address input. So I found what mine was and entered it. Works perfectly without hitch. Looks like awksoad was right dark.
