I've heard plasma tv's and video games don't work well together. Is this true? Was that only for plasmas when they first came out?

The only problem is you can't leave a still image on it for a long time because it'll burn it into your screen.

No actually thery're really great. Faster response time than LCDs, much smoother. I have had no problems with screen burn. Plasma over LCD any day. Better with SD TV too.

how long does it take to burn the image onto the screen? like if I pause the game to go drop a duece...is that too long? Is that the only problem with plasmas and games?

Seriously it ain't a problem anymore. You'd probably have to leave an image on screen for about three days straight for it to burn on.

my friend is moving and wants to get a flat screen plasma because he will be in a small apartment but doesn't want to ruin it with his game time...we kinda figured that they fixed the problem since plasmas first came out but just wanted to confirm.

No problem. Even with my extended gaming sessions (I played for 10 hours straight, fell asleep with the TV and 360 on) there weren't any problems, so yeah go get that plasma.

I'm not really a pro in LCD vs Plasma battle, and franly speaking, i dont own any, but im going to get one and from what i've heard, LCD have longer live span and also dont burn into screen. I dont think there is that much difference, but gaming on Plasma or LCD is much better for sure

yea the only reason I havent bought a plasma is because of the lifespan. I dont want a tv that will die on me in a few years.

It is still averaging out at 100,000 hour lifespan for a plasma, that's plenty.

Well, only problem I ever had was that my games became too dark no matter how much I adjusted the settings of the TV and the game.

lcd's are better than plasmas..why do you think they cost more for the same size screen..plasmas burn the bulbs quicker and lcd's bring out more of the color in a television set. lcd > plasma any day.

I thought its 30,000 hrs on plasma (16 years with watching it 3-4 hrs a day) and LCD is 60,000 hrs (30 years with watching 3-4 hrs a day). If someone watches TV 24/7, he has bigger problems than TV life span :)

To Bladecutter56:

I've read a survey about dark/light LCD/Plasma screens... apparently, LCD is supposed to be brighter.

But, once again, im not a pro in these things...

Plsamas have a great picture and run the games very smooth, but there is still a burn possibility. To get an image to burn into the tv, the same picture, this can mean HUDs too, have to be on the screen for about 6 hours straight without changing. so this really isn't that big of a deal. now i don't really use my plasma for gaming but that is just because its in the family room and not my room. i do use it occassionay and it works great, and i have had no burn problems yet. so basically your fine to use plasmas and it is probably a great tv for gaming, just make sure u keep don't let one screen sit for a long period of time

As far as I know, plasma's do burn after a long time of displaying a single image on the screen. But LCD's do too, just not as easily. And you can reverse the burning by displaying a white screen or something for a few hours I heard.

But LCD have a bit better of a picture and are brighter, but plasmas have better color but less of a picture, as far as I know.

Plasmas are expensive to run, they burn through alot of power.

As far as the plasma burn-in thing goes there's an IMPORTANT element that some of these guys have missed since you will be buying a new machine. Plasmas are FAR more susceptible to burn-in their first 100-200hours of use. After that you can be a little less cautious. During those first few hours though, I would let it take breaks every 45 minutes or so when playing games or watching TV that has a constant HUD or logo. Just my input though. Also, a lot of screens nowadays have a burn-in "wipe" which white washes the screen for a while and can help decrease some minor burn-in.

The 360 screen goes almost completely black if you leave it on for more than a few minutes with no input. So your set.

That doesn't help if you have a stationary hud on your screen and your playing a game for 8 hours though.

100,000 is definitely not long enough, a tv should last forever!!!!!!!!!

one major problem with gaming on lcd is "motion blur" in other words, as the image on the screen is moving it blurs, washing out any detail.. then once the image stops moving it's snaps into focus and becomes sharp again.. drive around in GTA4 and notice the detail on the signs of the passing stores.. then come to a stop and watch the sign snap into focus. another example is scenes such as running around the wasteland in fallout 3, you'll notice blades of glass and other tectures become very soft looking untill you stop moving they become sharp.

Im curious if any one else is bothered by this? does Plasma have a similar problem?
