im looking into buying a 7.1 system and was wondering, I know neither xbox or ps3 suppost 7.1 in the games but can you still use all speakers? or would I have two speakers doing nothing?

I mean like the Rear back and rear left play the same sounds, etc.

I would bet you would either get 5.1 sound or 7 speaker stereo....you're better off just getting a 5.1 sound system if it's mainly for games.

I have owned a 7.1 system for two years and all 7 speakers play sound and sound amazing! So totally get a 7.1 because it uses all the speakers and sounds amazing!

The xbox 360 only supports 5.1 so how does it use all seven in surround sound? That doesn't make sense.

the two extra speakers would be playing the same sound as two others. I think its called Matrixing via dolby digiltal pro logixII

Is it really 5.1 surround sound plus two speakers or just seven speaker stereo is the question.

your reciver will mix the sound so it sounds like true 7.1. I have a 7.1 yamaha setup and it works well with 5.1. there are modes called dolby digital plus/EX and DTS matrix that add the back speakers. This really depends on your reciver thou, but if you have a 7.1 setup it should have those sound modes.
