Just wondering which resolution you prefer on the 360? Also wondering, does 1080p put more strain on the console being that the 360 is optimised for 720p?

1080p here

I prefer it and no you're not adding undue strain to the console running it at 1080p

Also for the games that are 1080 native playing them at 720 means you're not getting the most out of them

I have 1080p, I set the 360 to 1080p, we lead a happy life

I use 720p, but if I had it connected to a 1080p TV then I would use that res because as far as I know it is better to let the hardware to the scaling rather than the TV.

The funny thing is, I have a 26" Samsung 720p tv but it allows for a 1080p signal through my 360's component cables. It's actually slightly noticeable too (smoother around the edges/slightly less jaggies in some games). I just don't want any interference to occur with upscaling/downscaling in the gameplay, although I have yet to notice any.

i think it just optimises it I cant imagine the console working harder for a better picture if it does it would be extremely little amount that would be nowhere nearenough to worry about.

I have a 720p samsung so i set it at that, however it will allow me to set it to 1080p but it makes no difference.

i would put that down to the tv rather than the output there are now so many makes and models. For example my mate had a 1080p with a 360 elite setup via game mode on the tv and using an hdmi cable all optimised but the picture quality was poorer than my 720p set up using the component cables.

What some people dont relise and ill use the above 46" as an example is the size of the tv, a 1080p46" tv will have the same amount of pixals as a 1080p 20" tv so although its still high def the pixals have to be bigger making it a poorer picture (less smooth) basicly the bigger the tv the poorer the picture. Its advised that anything over 37" should be 1080p to maximise the performance.

My 37" samsung produces some really vibrant colours from the xbox but if i plug it into my pc monitor using a vga cable the picture is alot smoother but i loose some colour.

Slightly off topic but the only thing at the mo that produces 1080p pics is games console and blu ray, Sky HD only outputs at 420p.

That's not entirely true. My Panasonic plasma definately upscales from 720p to 1080p better than does the 360.

I use 1080p, but my tv is meant for it. It should not do anything to you 360 or tv if you upscale it

using the native resolution of your tv is always best so if its 720p then use that if 1080p use that. Anything else means that the image is being stretched or shrunk to fit the screen.

Also it dosent effect the 360's performance because scaling is handled sepreatly. The 360 itself is always doing the same amount of work no matter what and only outputs t games in their native format(most games being 720p). Afterwards there is a chip that changes that images to fit your screen. So you will see the same performance regardless of what your resolution is set to.

The truth is, unless your TV is 42"+, 1080p is good for nothing but bragging rights. You'll never notice a difference on smaller TV's (and, really, 37" is still pretty big) unless your face is right up to the screen. Even on a 42" the difference is slight. If you're playing on a 62" TV, then you definitely want to go with 1080p, but buying a 37" 1080p TV is a waste of money. Sure, you can tell all your friends that you have a 1080p TV, but it won't make much difference (even on media that actually runs it).

And, as others have posted, some 720p TV's just plain have better pictures that other brands that display 1080p. My 720p LG 37" looks significantly better than a firend's Samsung 1080p 52". This doesn't mean that 720p is a better display, just that my TV has a better picture (which could be due to contrast ratio, calibration, and other factors).

Actually, mine is a 26" 720p Samsung, accepts a 1080p signal from the 360 and I can notice a slight difference. Edges are a bit smoother and overall picture is slightly crisper.

Not true

If you actually buy a set for the distance you should be sitting you see a large difference between 720 and 1080 in the high 30 inches and up

I mean the most you should sit from a 40 inch set is under 6 feet, you making it sound like people are looking across a room at a set that size

I used 720p. But unless you have a 40 plus inch tv 1080p doesn't look much better than 720p.

1080p looks freakingamazingon a 50 plus inch tv.

Not entirely true. If you intend to use your 32" panel doubling as a tv and a computer monitor, then 1080 native is a must. I have a small room, so I have to make do with just one panel since all I have room for is a desk for aPC montiorOR a tv stand for an HDTV. I tried using a 1366*768 native 32" as my PC also, and it was SUPER pixelated cuz the individuals pixels were so large - very straining on the eyes when reading texts. So I upgraded to a 32" 1920*1080, and wow, a WORLD difference. Not pixelated at all and totally usable as a PC monitor. I'm a happy camper now - my panel serves as both an HDTV and PC monitor. But in terms of viewing tv or movies, yes I agree with you, I couldn't tell the difference between the 2 sets.

1080p. The higher the better.
