My Xbox 360 has the overheating issue that has been beaten to death on this board as well as others.  I saw in Circuit City that Nyko has an intercooler that supposedly helps with this issue.  My question is:  Does anybody out there have it, and does it really make a difference?

Word is that it can actually damage your 360, and voids your warranty.

Why would you want to add something to your 360 that voids the warranty? Then if you do have a problem, guess what? No warranty. Keep it ventilated and enjoy it, it should be fine.

i doesnt void your warranty.thats like saying using a thrid party controller will void your warranty.why would a retailer even sell something that would void the warranty. I have it and it has worked whenever i needed to use it.hasnt done any harm to my 360 too.the only problem is that its louder than a F-16 fighter jet

It does its job by cooling your 360 but then causes many other problems for the 360. SO that Microsoft doesn't have to repair Nyko caused broken 360's, the cooler voids your warranty.

Doesn't it void the warranty because you have to power the system through the intercooler which requires the 360 power cord to be plugged into that first.

I have had my 360 for a bit over a year and wanted to ensure that it kept working so i bought the intercooler. Before it I never had a problem with the system, a day after I put that thing on I got a red ring. I took it off and it works just fine. I am not sure if it was tha intercooler or not, it has been a few weeks and I haven't had an issue with my 360 since it has been off.

Any third-party product that can affect the way MS intended the original unit to work can void the warranty. The Intercooler is one of these, and of my circle of associate who own 360's and have used the Intercooler, all have had adverse affects from it.

I recommend you do not use it. It saps power intended for use in the console and has been known to cause over-heating of the power supply brick and the console, especially when one of the three fans in the Intercooler goes bad and the others try to compensate. AVOID THE INTERCOOLER; it's like cigarettes for your console- using it is asking for trouble sooner or later.

that crap screwed my 360 up. When i had it on, i got the red ring 3 times within a week. After i took it off, the 360 ran smoother and quieter and havent had the red rings since.

Found some proof. I guess it can actually create electrical arcs between the 360 and the intercooler, which is very, very bad.

Yeah I have that intercooler as well read the reports & took that sucker off. Just felt cheaply made especially when you have to plug in the 360 power cord through it for me it didn't feel like it was secure.

Great job finding this! Now post it on every gaming website you know of and warn these people! They should just pull this garbage off the shelves or MS should sue the hell outta Nyko for poorly designing and selling it in the first place.

"Halo" is a killer app, and the Intercooler is a killer acc.

I used to own one, but when I started gettign power problems and the Red Lights, I quickly took it off. Once I removed it everything was working fine again. As long as you give your 360 1 foot of space on all sides, than your golden.

Apparently since the intercooler powers up before the console does it actually hurts the system by taking power away from it unlike other third party items like the fan stand which hooks up via USB and only feeds from the console's power after it has powered up.  Now from what I've heard, the intercooler will leave slight markings where it connects to the console that Microsoft can see, and they have already stated that if you send your console in for warranty repair they will do nothing if such markings are found.

My system overheated in June '06.  I placed an intercooler on my replacement and have not had any problems.  I plan on keeping the configuration, as is.

My intercooler has not messed up my 360, but i have been through 3 intercoolers.  The fans are cheap, and they will go bad and vibrate and make a lot of noise, and the 360 will freeze.  its obvious when the fans go bad because its really loud.  They are warrantied for 6 months only, one only lasted 11 days out of the box.  I have had no trouble exchanging them for free, but its still a pain.

There are other models that make the 360 stand up, mine always freezes if standing up, dont know why.  so i have not tried any of those fans.

Because most of the Intercoolers that have issues melt to the system. This is due to the poor design for the power cable to plug into the Intercooler. The Intercooler was a waste of $20 for me, as it worked fine for a while, then started causing red rings because it created improper power flows and then it even caught on fire. It is a piece of crap and I would not recommend getting it. Congrats to all the ppl it actually works properly for.

I have used the cooler since i bought my 360 Works greatSouL-Tak3R

Yeah, mined work "great" for about six months... then it killed my system, just as this device has been known to kill countless other systems.

Please, people, (nothing against SouL-Tak3R) don't allow one or two success stories goad you into taking the risk. It's simply not worth risking a $400 system on a $20 accessory with such an overwhemlingly bad rep. It kills systems and voids warranties, don't do it. Just take normal precautions (adequate ventalation, don't move it while in operation, etc.) and your system should work fine. If not, it'll be the fault of the system and MS can repair it. I was a huge advocate when I got the Intercooler, but tooks its toll on my Box. I have since used no cooling device (USB or otherwise) and have had NO PROBLEMS even during marathons (+10 hours.)

If you think you might need a cooling device, go for anything BUT the Intercooler.
