A question about halo story line. Some Spoliers!!

First of all let me say I love the halo franchise well what Ive played of it. My first Halo game was Halo 3, then Halo wars,Odst, then reach. I was trying to get caught up on all the story but I am a little confused. I was reading on Wiki I believe and it said that in the real Halo story line I guess the book, or comic or whatever the game is based on that Cortana chooses Master chief to take her. Here is what I read "The origin of Cortana is not explained in the videogames,but in the Halo novels. Her first chronological appearance in the story is in Halo: The Fall of Reach a 2001 prequel to the first videogame. Dr Halsey allows Cortana to choose which Spartan 2 soldier to accompany on an upcoming mission. Cortana chooses Master Chief who she believs is the best match". That quote is from looking up Cortana on her main page on wikipedia. I know wiki isnt the most reliable website lol, but I think its legit. My question is isnt that what happens at the end of Reach when she chooses Noble six?? I know everyone says it isnt Master Chief but in the original story doesnt she choose master chief?? Did Bungie change the story?? Also another thing I didnt understand was where the doctor lady, I think her name is Catherine Halsey doesnt she say that the computer Cortana is some kind of alien technology that is gonna change the war right before it chooses noble 6?? If so why is it made in her image? Maybe I just misunderstood the short cut scene that I watched because me and my buddy were talking but I didnt fully understand it all lol. Please dont flame me because liek I said I have never played the earlier halo games, I am just trying to get caught up because I find the mythology and story behind the game intriguing.

I don't read the Halo novels, but I have beat Halo: CE, 2, 3, Wars and ODST and I just got to the Pillar of Autumn mission in Reach so I'm not sure how the finale of Reach plays out, but in Halo 3 Cortana does say that she chose Master Chief. It's the beginning cutscene. And Noble Six was chosen by herfor the mission where Cortana is transported to the Pillar of Autumn.

Granted I don't read Halo novels or comics or anything I just really enjoy the games. Not to the point where I want to read about more Halo but to the point where I do want to play a lot more Halo so I'm certain other people will be able to give you more detailed analysis.
