A question for people with XBL and mics? (Especially older teenagers/adults)? I'm thinking of getting a mic for XBL. I've been playing lots of Multiplayer LFD2 recently, and I can't tell you how many times I've been kicked because of not owning a mic. I'm 13 now, I'll be turning 14 years old October 2nd. (Next month) And I was wondering, do you generally look down upon younger kids talking on their mics? I don't think my voice is high, but it's not deep or anything, And I don't know what others would think of it and I don't really want to start getting insulted or kicked actually BECAUSE of me being younger. I've once been told my voice sounds higher over the phone but that was 1-2 years ago, and it hasn't been mentioned since by any of my friends. I do partially understand why I get kicked, I hate it when your teammates just stand around shooting and not moving, on Versus mode. (For anyone who owns Left 4 Dead) It's probably because of bad communication. Can you please state your age, and tell me if you do think differently of younger ones and would kick me because of that? Any tips and opinions? Thanks.CogsteeI'm 48, and I don't have a problem with younger players. As long as they don't talk constantly (which most of them do), and they don't try to push their agendas while online (racial, musical, or whatever). Just have fun and try to be a positive force for the gaming community, and you'll be fine.
Well, if your voice is not the deepest, it's pretty fair to say that you will come across some foul comments, because that's just how a lot of the XBL community (and the internet, for that matter) chooses to act. Like others have said, so long as you aren't yelling into the mic every 5 seconds or being really disruptive, you should be okay. Don't take any insults you may get seriously as it's not worth it. Simply mute them and move on. Don't feel bad about being kicked from L4D either, as just about all people who don't talk get kicked simply because it's a game that requires heavy cooperation.
I'm 19, but I only use my mic while playing with people I know, because the XBL community can be so rotten at times. I prefer to keep to myself anyway.
I'm 16, but my voice sounds, as someone put it "like I smoke 30 packs a day". Anyway, I don't mind anyone on the mic, as long as they're not screaming or being generally annoying.
I don't look down on the voice itself, I look down on what the voice is saying.
If you're babbling like an incoherent child, I'm going to mute you. But if you're talking strategy and working as a team to try and win, I'm going to treat you like an adult.
The whole problem with the '12-16 yea olds' isn't how their voice sounds, but the stupid **** they often say. Not that everyone has to talk about politics and the economy while online or something like that. But some sense of maturity goes a long way. All the lines like **** that **** I pwnd your mom last night' doesn't really contribute to a fun experience. You can definitely taunt each other for fun, but do it in a way that's fun for everyone.
It's hard for me to actually come up with examples. You should check out some episodes of Arby 'n the Chief on YouTube. I find that show gets the message across pretty clear. Act like the Arbiter, not like maStuR Ch33f.
I'm 24, and i'll be honest with you...
the minute i hear a little kids voice in a game, i get mentally prepared to be annoyed to hell and back by this kid and just mute him.
90% of the time, these kids will use extremely vulgar language, to the point they're just utterly annoying.
However there are occasions where i find some of these kids manageable, sometimes they're even pretty cool. I still usually ignore their friend requests i admit, but that's because i don't like having people on my friendslist if i don't expect to talk to them/play with them a lot.
But if you're respectful and you're not screaming the "F" word in my ear over and over everytime you get grabbed by a hunter/smoked/ hit by a tank, or you're playing call of duty and you get shot...then it's cool.
By all means get a mic, especially for a game like left 4 dead, that game is all about team work. But be prepared for other players to treat you like crap just because you sound young.
I'm in my thirties.
I don't mind anybody's age, but people talk alot of junk and I usually have comms off, and listening to music. I am not a "people person" unless I decide to be, most of the time I just want to play without alot of talking.
When people start doing kick votes, I start killing them.
When I hear dumb things being said, racist language, "I own joo" and various other comments, I roll my eyes, sometimes I decide to team-kill.
Other than that, I am perfectly happy to play co-op with anybody of any age or background.
Just shut up and kill the monsters with me.
Help each other out.
Teamwork.
Not talk. Talk is worthless.
A good way to make friends in L4D is to use your healthpack on teammates, or give them your pain pills. Stick with your team and help them kill zombies.
(in case you didn't notice, L4D is how I got my name.)
Best of luck
for the record, the only game i play onlie is L4D2, so my online experience is limited i guess.
im 20 and i dont mind playing with younger people. as long as they can communicate correctly and know what they are doing in the game, then its fine.i also dont have a problem with no-micers, as long as they dont split off and have an idea of what they are doing.
but when i get the youngsters who think they are tough s*** and try to tell me(or other players) when to charge, jockey, etc or when to throw a pipe bomb. just the people who tell you how to play the game, it royally pisses me off. i never listen to them, and the people who do, always end up failing.
i also hate the people that will run off by themselves then get pinned by a hunter, then get pissed at everyone else because we couldnt save him.
in general, i just hate stupid people. especially when they try to shove a charger off of someone, i rage.
honestly, i don't care who uses their mic, even if they are a young kid. if the kid's gamertag is XxLeGiTxSnIpEzxX and he is screaming and just annoying the s*** out of people, that's the kind of stuff that nobody likes, but i think generally if the kid is just talking and not trying to be annoying and actually trying to help the team, people are fine with that.
One question ....is your voice high pitched? .....i know it may sound irrelevant atm but even if you get your mic and you have that stereotypical cod kid voice you will most likely get kicked anyway ...and how do you get your hands on such games at 14 if i may ask? oh and i'm 18 and myself have no problem wit hyounger gamers just curious
only get a mic if you intend to speak to friends using it...otherwise there is little point. And as long as you dont insult people or make annoying noises over the mic (like most people do) then we wont find you annoying.
I don't care about the age of a person, as long as they're mature enough to play the game. Now "maturity" is more than the "age" of someone; because I've actually met some 5-12 year olds online that we're a lot more mature than many of the 20-30 year olds I meet online.
You're playing Left 4 Dead 2? So am I... add me if you want. GT - "Michael Knows". Send a message, saying that you want to play Left 4 Dead 2. Because, my bro uses the account also.
Look down on younger people on XBL. No I'm 39 so 98% of Xbox 360 players are younger than I. If you are not abusive when using the mic no one should bother you.
You should only get a mic for talking to friends. That's what I do. It's very rare to encoutner others with mics that aren't total asses.

I'm doing the same. I never use the mic and generally just mute everyone. On PC I communicate through short chat messages (TF2 on PC was great in the beginning; great teamplay), but in general I try to help my team. That often means that -to compensate- I play in an overly suicidal way to try to clear a path/capture the flag or whatever..... or just stick with my team depending on the game mode.
