Hey there. :D

I need some help.
Now I finally got on top of my addiction to World of Warcraft, I decided it was time to go back to my roots, namely console gaming.
Now I already have a Wii, but my original plan was to buy a 360 alongside with it, because only a Wii can't satisfy me, nor only a 360.

Now, the thing is...
I have no clue at all at what type of 360 I should buy.
Don't really want to spend to much money since I already got the clue that the 360 game's library is very big and awesome and stuff so... I generally want to game not caring about DVD players or other fancy stuff since I already have those things standalone.
Neither do I want Live right away, first wanna play some singleplayer games like Bioshock (I own this game on PC, but unfortunatly my PC can't handle the game well and because of the console gamer that I am, I decided to bring back the game and continue playing it as soon as I get my 360 since it's an utterly amazing game so far. :))

Another question would be, what games should I focus on getting first?
Mind you that I love most games except for sports, race and fightning games.
Love action adventure games and my number one games are RPG's.

So some help would be very appreciated for this 'soon to be 360 owner'. :D
Thanks!

Wow, you're tastes are nearly identical to mine. That being the case, i'll suggest each game frome my current library.

Bioshock, Gears of War, and Halo 3. Of the three, Bioshock is the most impressive title. What it lacks in multiplayer, it makes up for in just about everything else with the exception of length. It is probably my favorite game of all time. GoW and H3 are also a lot of fun.

If money weren'r a constraint,I would also have my hands on Crackdown, The Darkness, Viva Pinata, and the Orange Box. So I suppose I would suggest those as well.

And as for which model to go with, I recieved an Elite for my birthday and love it, although i'm not sure how much use I will get out of the gobs of memory in it. Anything but the core is a good buy really.

Ok thanks.
Yes, Gears of War and Halo 3 are must-have's. :)
And Viva Pinata looks just like my kind of game to relax after a hard day of work.

So, you are suggesting anything but the core version?
Thanks mate, I'll look into it.
Meanwhile, more replies would be awesome. :)

as far as 360s go, get the premium. it has just enough more to make it worthwhile yet not over the top like elite.

prem has a 20g harddrive, great for saves, some demos, etc. and it has wireless controllers plus the newer chips.

as far as games, bioshock, of course, but also look for orange box. im also excited for mass effect (first rpg in a while for me), assassins creed, and cod4

If you like RPG's then Oblivion is a must have. It's the most open-ended game on the 360. With hundreds of hours worth of gameplay and stuff to do.

I am surprised no one mentioned it, but Rainbow Six Vegas was great and I never got around to playing it online. It is probably selling at a discount now. Gears, Halo 3 , and Bioshock are definate givens.

The elite can be a pretty good deal, but since it sounds like you probably won't be needing the HD space for movies and such, the Premium is all you should need. Either way, you may want to wait until the recently announced Forza 2/Marvel UA comes out at the end of this month. While those may not be your preferred games, you don't have to pay any more for them, and it ensures that you are getting a new console and not one that has been sitting on the shelf for a long time. Another thing to check for is the HDMI capability on the Premiums. I just bought mine a few weeks ago, and some of the Premiums I saw on the shelf did not yet have the HDMI capability. But if you want the newest version with the new processor, I suggest waiting until the bundled version comes out. I'm sure you can stay entertained on the Wii for a couple more weeks.

Ive just bought my 360 recently and it bugs me that there is an rpg draught. I played the demo for Blue dragon and thats not my type of rpg. For shooters you'll have no problem there as there are tons of excellent shooters out right now for 360. Apart from oblivion and blue dragon are there any other rpgs worth looking into? Oh man Halo 3 is so good co-op online with 4 people, you have to get that

HDMI?
Any info on that? :)
Yes sorry, I'm a noob at the whole360 hardware department.
And drgrady, maybe I should just ask in the store if they have that kind of new Xbox's? I was actually thinking of buying one online at a great webstore, they have an Xbox 360 Premium Halo 3 pack, with the console and game, one wireless controller, the hdd, a headset, HD AV Cable and an ethernet cable for 380 EURO.
Good deal or not? :D

I'm tired of waiting now, played all games I wanted on Wii and eagerly waiting for Corruption and Galaxy now.
But I want something new, and since I kinda left PC gaming for what it is now I'm getting psyched up for getting a 360 as soon as possible. :P

Anything but the Core Version, but you should wait until that new version with the two game bundle comes out. I mean, it's two free games. Get that, Gears of War, Halo 3, and anything else you want, but those two are necessities for sure! Oh and don't forget Xbox Live. If you have questions, feel free to PM me.

i'd have to agree with everyone saying the premium. the elite is tempting for even me, but when i think about it i really, really dont need 120 gbs of free space. as for games: rainbow six vegas: although i am addicted to the online play, i found that the single player campaign story whatever you want to call it mode was amazing, i loved it. mass effect is coming out soon, looks amazing, as does assassin's creed. splinter cell double agent: another amazing single player game that i've beaten a couple times now, and you wont have to worry about the multiplayer cause it's not very good. hope i helped.

also as for halo 3 goes, the story mode was very linear with not much to offer. and since you're not getting xbox live right away i wouldn't recommend it, since most of the hype/love people seem to have for it is solely the online co-op and multiplayer. edit: i cant seem to spell today..

The HDMI capable consoles allow you to switch between the standard television displays and HD TVs. I just have an old, cheap TV that does not support high-definition input, but I imagine I'll have the console longer than the TV, so I may get to use the HDMI with my next TV. Even if you do not have an HD TV, I would suggest getting the HDMI simply because it does not cost extra and it is only on more recent versions of the console that have the extra heat sinks (although it does not ensure the console will be the most recent version that has the new processor).

As far as the price for the Halo 3 bundle, I don't know if that is a good deal. I guess you would just need to shop around to see if that is comparable to buying the Premium with Halo 3 separate or if you would save money from the bundle. Other than the ethernet cable which you probably have anyway if you've done PC gaming, it looks like Halo 3 is the only extra item you get in the bundle. So it is really up to you, but personally, I think the new processor alone would be enough reason to wait until I could be sure I was getting what I wanted. The processor itself really doesn't have any more processing power, but it generates less heat and it is held more securely to the motherboard, so it is much less likely to die from overheating and the MB warping.

If you go into a store, the box that the console comes in will tell you if it has an HDMI port, and you can also look at manufacture date (printed somewhere on the outside of the box). The one console that I've seen that had the new processor had a manufacture date of August 24th, so try to get something at least that recent.

Oh, sorry. It looks like you'd have HD capability with the HD AV cable. So I guess the HDMI just provides another type of port for some of the newer TVs. Since I have an old TV, I've not yet had to mess with this, and it is probably pretty obvious that I don't know much about the high definition stuff. Despite that, I would still try to get the HDMI version console unless someone who knows more than me can explain why you don't need it. Like I said before, it is essentiall free since the console costs the same as previous versions without HDMI.

for the games i suggest: Gears Of War, Bioshock, Halo 3, Saints Row. After when Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed come out get those. and probably orange box for the collection or for your interest. if the black color suits you and want a bigger hard drive go for a Xbox 360 Elite Package. if not Premium package.

My main thing now has been 360 though and I have been playing halo 3, eternal sonata and I am gonna pick up some more games once they are released in the next couple months @_@. Honestly, 360 can be really fun but the urge for wow will never be satisfied if you were really into it.

No offense, but that doesn't sound like a very trustworthy statement considering the complete lack of any evidence. It just sounds melodramatic and thoughtless. Maybe you regret buying a 360, but your experience is obviously not going to be the same as everyone else's.

Just look at the exclusives coming to the other next gen sytems in the near future and look at the ones coming to the 360 and tell me that isn't evidence enough. Plus theres the RROD and all thoose other console failures.

So you don't think the TC is able to decide what console he wants? He already has the Wii, so you are suggesting PS3 clearly dominates the xbox 360. Please just give up on the whole console wars garbage. Seriously, you must be mentally challenged if you think other people are going to like/dislike the same things you do. While I just recently bought my 360, I know several people who have had theirs since launch and have not regretted it yet. If you don't like the console, nobody is telling you to buy it, but please realize that some people will decide to buy it even given the same information that you have about what games are coming out and what hardware issues have arrisen. So quit being melodramatic about it.

Plus, I can get the games that I want (besides Crysis) all on the 360, so the exclusives are apparently not enough evidence even if you had listed them as evidence in your original post.

Well I'm gonna hook up my 360 on a Phillips Ceneos HD TV, so that cable will sure be needed because occasionally I will also have to switch toan older JVC widescreen tv (with no HD).Thanks for telling me. :)
And I think I'm gonna let go the idea of buying the 360 on that webstore, instead I'll go to a dealer in Nintendo Sony and Microsoft stuff in town on thursday.

Again thanks, your help is greatly appreciated. :)

Hehe, yes but the thing is...
Before I started playing WoW in August '05, I've never really gamed on PC except for some online shooters like UT2k3 and 2k4, Vietcong, BF1942 etc.
I quited WoW before, but I started playing again when Burning Crusade hitted the shelves.

Don't want that to happen anymore since my RL is important to me, and WoW and RL don't really seem to go well together despite what people say about 'it's all about controlling it'.

I figured that I would mention that demos alone fill up the 20gig hardrive. I continually have to delete things in order to download new items. I am glad I got the 360 when I did, but I would certainly suggest the elite at this point.

First off, if they offer an extended warranty at the store...take it! I am kicking myself for not getting one, chances are it will break sooner or later. You will save a great deal of heartache if you have a warranty where you can just take it in and swap it out.

On the game side of things I would say Halo 3, Bioshock and Vegas in that order...IMHO. Depending on how dedicated you are to sitting down and beating a game Bioshock may bea rental only. Also don't forget about Arcade as there are some hidden gems there.

Well, personally I think for a gamer like yourself you should get a pro or if your into Halo at all you might wanna get the Halo 3 Edition. The Pro has the 20gb hard drive which is the main attraction for getting a Pro. It is not worth it at all to get the Core because your going to need the memory and it costs a lot more to get the hard drive seperate.

Some really good games to get are Halo 3, Gears of War, Bioshock, The Orange Box, Rainbow Six: Vegas, and Mass Effect is soon to come. There are many other greate games for the 360 but these are some of the best.

Xbox 360 Premium for you :)

I would get Mass Effect when that comes, not sure when your getting your 360.
Also Halo 3, Oblivion, Gears, (blue dargon was okay if you can do those RPG) Perfect Dark Zero. To start with.

Also, is it just me, or do these sort of post becoming more and more of on the 360 forum? Seems like alot of people are getting there 360s now.

Nothing personal, but I have never heard anyone suggest Perfect Dark Zero before... well, at least not since about a month after the 360 debuted. So with that in mind, I would respectfully disagree.
