Why do people think that once you get all of the achievements in a game that the game is over?
Especially in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion there is still game/story to play, also many(if not most) other games still have game/story to play after getting the achievements too.
To me achievements don't really mean anything as with me I play the game to play the game not to play the game to get achievements.

The like the achievment system..it's like the game sets up personal achievments for you and you actually get rewarded for it. But if people are only playing a game for the achievments then... thats a waste of money, don't you think?

I play the game I buy to enjoy the game!

Is there something I'm missing with achievements? You can't really do anything with it, right? So what's the point of it?

#1 bragging rights

#2 check gamespot news. On Feb 12th Microsoft is having a contest for people to boost there gamerscore by 1500 points and you can win free stuff. Microsoft points, t-shirts and even games. So yes you can get stuff from them.

I personally play the game to play the game but I also want the acheivement. It gives you different ideas and challenges that you wouldnt normally try. Like beat an entire mission using only melee attacks in call of duty 3.

I think its a great idea M$ came up with.

They're cool like easter eggs but some of them are stupid.  Example for CoD3....100% melee attacks for one mission?  WTF would try that for fun in a game with people shooting at you???

I would have to have done every single last thing in that game before I resorted to hand to hand for entertainment. lol So basically in a few weeks.

This sounds just like me, as I play the games until I get bored with them and I do not try to get achievements but when or if I get an achievement I am like hey that's cool but whatever. I get bored with games too which is why I have 35 Xbox360 games.
