I'm a Wii owner looking to pick up a second system, and after deciding that I'd have as much fun throwing my four hundred dollars at people than I would playing PS3, I decided on XBox 360. But they're offering a few packages, and as the last two systems I've purchased (the Wii and the SNES) only came in one format, I don't know what I really need.

Also, what are the MUST HAVE games for Xbox 360? My list goes
1) Rock Band
2) Assassin's Creed
3) Virtua Fighter 5
4) Halo 3 (obligatory for all Xbox owners)

Any help on either of these topics would be greatly appreciated.

alright well i dont have muck knowledge on the 360 packages, but i can help you with the must haves.

i would say add mass effect to your list cause that in my and many others opinion is a absolutely must have. and i see you got assassins creed and halo 3 on your list, good, good. i would also say add gears of war to it, the campaign is incredible and so is the multiplayer, but im not sure how many people still play online since halo 3 came out, cause i had to get rid of my copy :( if i think of any more must haves ill make sure to post...oh wait! if you like RPG's then you got to get oblivion!...ok so hope i was able to help and good luck man :)

Can anyone help about the initial question? OK, for example, do I need a harddrive, and if so what for? (Again, I've always had Nintendo products, so I don't know these things.)

This is a great time to buy a 360 with the bundle packages they have now i think anyone with a 360 will agree just buy the premium system it comes with the 20gb harddrive a wireless remote HDMI if you want to use. It comes with 2 games forza 2 (great sim racer) as well as marval ulitmate alliance which is fun to. If you need more memory than a 20gb harddrive buy the elite its black and has a 120gb harddrive and comes bundled with those games. I personally would not buy the 360 arcade because you will want a harddrive someday and it comes with some little stupid memory card.

Extra games to get

1 call of duty 4

2 rainbow six vegas

3 assassins creed

4 gears of war

5 mass effect

Any reason I'd need the 120GB vs the 20 GB? Also, any reason not to get a refurbished one from GS or something to save some moolah?

P.S. The rumors of playing divx format is still just a rumor, correct? Because that would absolutely settle what little doubt there is in my mind about getting a PS3 over this.

Still a rumor, but there are programs you can use to stream divx files anyway (I believe you need to have Vista or XP media center to use it).

If you are going to be downloading a lot of Xbox 1 games, movies and game content you might want to get the 120GB HDD. You need an HDD to play Xbox 1 games.
