I enjoy playing my friends 360 every Thursday for almost 2 hours a week, and all, but I just don't understand achievements. I mean, what's the point, other than bragging to your friends (which is do-able sans achievements)?

They're just really there for replay value.

Like, if you beat the main game, it gives you something to do.

But honestly, it translates into side quests for the game itself. Meaning, they could have been in the game regardless of achievements.

It gives you a reason to play a game more than once and even lets you set goals to beat a game. I.E. Gathering every item in the game. It's just friggin fun to get em.

why do we play games, other than to share our experiences with other players? and what better way do we have to share our experiences than by bragging? this, in essence, is why achievement points work so well as a motivation for playing.

They're there to give you proof about doing unbelievable things on games, but really don't have anything other than a little replay value and bragging rights.

The point of them is for devs who suck at makin games to still sell their products due to easy achivements

heck king kong sold over half a million thats more then most PS3 games just cause of the achivements

darkguyver82

Honestly, I've heard there is no such thing as a stupid question, but really? Of-f***ing-course not. How could you get an online achievement offline? How did you think you could get 10,000 ranked kills on GeoW without ever entering a ranked match? No one has answered your question before now because it so ridiculous its almost a rhetorical question.

P.S. if you find a way to sing a song without opening your mouth, lemme know.

They are kind of fun to get, but a lot of them require a lot of extra game time. I only really have an interest in the ones that happen during the normal course of gameplay. I almost never go out of my way to pick up achievements I haven't got by the time I finish a game.

To me, achievements are nothing more than an extra set of goals that players can aim to achieve within games. While I won't play games I don't like simply to earn achievements, I adore racking up points within games I enjoy. While some people seem to have a bit of an issue with achievements, for the most part, they're well-accepted. I personally can't fathom why anyone would dislike more "quests," per se, at their fingertips in any game on the console. A player's gamerscore is nothing more than a representation of a player's skill, ability (in most cases), and desire to achieve a pre-defined set of goals, and in turn, something to feel proud of.

Hey.....I just wanted to say that I am sorry for being ignorant for asking such a stupid question, but some of us don't get alot of time to play online and stuff like that.......why does everyone think that the whole world has xbox live and that people have vast amounts of time......I just asked a question and all I wanted was a simple reply....not some ego trip about how i'm stupid for even asking.....hell!.....if questions didn't get asked, they would never get answered, right?

I'm sure that someone has already posted something similar, but has anyone else run into the problem of achievements disapearing because of recover one's gamertag, but then not being able to gain those same acheivements later. My example is Dead Rising and just trying to get the one for putting masks on a few zombies, but I ended up doing it for a while with no outcome. Any ideas?

Well before I get an Xbox360, the only games that I can say I've got everything is in Final Fantasy serie. It is just a motivation to get everything the game has to offert or to know what quests or special things or ridiculously difficult thing you wouldn't have try without knowing you could do it.

Some people have more incentive to play the game if they see some kind of global reward for it (I mean global as in all their games combined) and it's very organized and shows how far you've gotten in each game etc. Some games offer bonus things with achievements (like Dead Rising) so that's another look at it. Overall it's just added motivation to finish your games. Replay value.
