Ok I admit it. I'm new to the 360....what's this stuff about earning "Achievements". How does this work?

Its a overall score of every game you play! You dont need them but its fun to collect-em-all!!!!!!!
full games come with 1000 points each (can be a total 1250 if it has some new downloadable content)
xbox live arcade games come with 200 each (can be 250? if it has some new downloadable content)
[QUOTE="RojAvon"]I've picked that much up..but what are they worth to me as a gamer?lvin5992it cant be used to buy anything but its fun to earn them, they add replay value to games and gamers respect u for having a lot.
agree i beat dead rising so many times for achievements... i see them as something for the hard core gamers to do once they r done with the game : / can't wait till i get all of bioshock achievements :)

so true, i remember having to break up with my gf because i was all, "dude you didnt even get the king kong 1000 pts" and she was all "psh" so i was all "peace ho, i ain't wastin my 360 controller keyboard strokes on you"
hey, i dont play live so i was wondering how many points can i get from each game without doing the online achievements?

Varies from game to game. The older games don't really require live to get most achievements, but the newer games about a third of the ach pts are live. Check out the games page on this site, and go to the"Hints and Cheats" tab, and it'll tell you all the achievements for said game.

Achievements serve as a way to tell other gamers who look in your profile which games you like the most, how good you are at those games, and whether or not you play games a lot. If I look at a person's gamer profile and see that he has a very low gamerscore but has a lot of games in his list with 0 achievement points for them, then I know that he likes to waste his money a lot :D. If I see that someone has a lot of achievement points but very few games, I can see that they like to get their money's worth out of their games.
They can even tell you how far a person is in the game, like if a person only has the first act achievementin Gears of War, I know that he hasn't touched the single player campaign much.
Can someone please give some examples of Achievements?
Are they things like- '50 consequtive kills', 'completed level X without dieing', 'completed level X in under 7 miniutes' ect?
cheezy909
Yea. Something like that. !0,000 kills in GEOW is a respect acheivement. When you see someone with that, you know they know how to play.
